Bertha Kruse

Bertha Kruse, age 86 of Brenham, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, January 19 at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Monday, January 20 at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill with Pastor David Hansen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Bertha was born March 6, 1927 in Wesley to Otto Henry and Emma (Wegner) Sommerfeld. On December 3, 1950, she was united in marriage to John Kruse at Salem Lutheran Church of Salem by Rev. Paul Gogolin.

Bertha attended school in Wesley. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill and the Ladies Aid. She loved living on the farm, gardening and taking her dog riding in the golf cart.

She was preceded in death by husband John; son Michael S. Kruse; brothers & sister-in-law Emmanuel and Mildred Sommerfeld, Otto C. Sommerfeld; sisters and brothers-in-law Weda Preuss, Hettie and Johan Quebe, Viola and Raymond Priesmeyer, Bernice and Theodore Rogge.

Survivors include loving son John F. Kruse; brother Ervin Sommerfeld; sister-in-law Erlene Sommerfeld and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers are Dwayne Rogge, Kenneth Priesmeyer, Tom Smith, Roger Sommerfeld, Herbert Klatte Jr. and Don Holtkamp. Honorary pallbearers are Gilbert Goeke, Darrell Gummelt and Fred Henry Heidemann.

Memorials may be given to the church or charity of choice.
