Obituary

Bill Cavin, 91, of Brenham, Texas, passed away on March 24, 2026, just days before his 92nd birthday. A man who lived life to the fullest and laughed often, Bill’s life was defi ned by service, humor, and an expansive devotion to his family.

Born in Corpus Christi, Bill proudly served 20 years in the United States Air Force, including service in Vietnam, before settling in Austin in 1968. Following his military service, he dedicated another 20 years to Texas Instruments.

Bill’s greatest pride was the family he built. With his first wife, Charlene, they adopted two children—an experience he often called one of life’s greatest blessings. Later, the family grew by two more, a story Bill loved to recount as an unexpected and profound gift. He took immense pride in his children and the lives they built, always grateful for the role he was given as their father.

The second half of Bill’s life was defined by a deep, creative, and adventurous companionship with his second wife, Connie. Together for 30 years, they shared a love for the open road and the beauty of the Texas landscape. They spent decades traveling the country, often with Bill behind the handlebars of his Honda Goldwing or pulling a fifth-wheel trailer, seeking out new sights and visiting small Texas towns.

When they weren't traveling, they were building. After moving to Brenham to restore a home built in 1906, Bill poured his talent into its renovation, creating beautiful ceilings and intricate woodwork that made the house their sanctuary. His hands were rarely still; he had a lifelong passion for airplanes, motorcycles, and classic cars. He was a gifted restorer who took great pride in his work, even earning trophies for the classic cars he brought back to life.

Bill’s heart for service followed him into retirement. In Brenham, he became a pillar of the Washington County Healthy Living Senior Center. He spent countless hours teaching crafts, helping others discover their creative spark, and served his peers by driving the center’s bus, ensuring everyone could stay connected and active.

He was Connie’s greatest supporter, acting as the "official greeter" at her jewelry craft shows, where he loved nothing more than meeting friends old and new. Whether he was working with the Homeowners Association or helping widowed neighbors, Bill was a man who showed his love through action.

Amidst his many projects, Bill always moved in harmony with nature. He absolutely loved the arrival of springtime. Thirty years ago, Bill introduced Connie to the Willow City Loop; standing on a cliff side overlooking a valley of Bluebonnets, they shared their fi rst kiss. That spot became their sacred place, visited every spring, where they eventually vowed to have their ashes scattered together. At home, he found peace in the simple rhythms of the afternoon: greeting the deer from his porch chair and whistling back to the pet mockingbird that still meets the car every time it pulls into and out of the driveway.

A cancer survivor since 1999, Bill faced life with resilience and an unmistakable wit. He is remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived by the words: “Oh, how I love this life I have been given.”

Bill is survived by his second wife, Connie; his children and their spouses: Tim and Lori Cavin, Teri and Troy Daeschner, Todd and Joyce Cavin, and Toni and Marc Poulain; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Leon “Bud” and Harold “Bo” Cavin; and grandson, Justin Poulain.

A Celebration of life will be held Friday, May 8, 2026 at 1:00PM at Brenham Memorial Chapel

Bill’s final wish was for his family and friends to skip the cemetery and instead visit Willow City Loop near Fredericksburg—to remember him not by a tombstone, but through the incredible beauty of the Texas Bluebonnets
