Obituary
Billy Ross Pope, 80, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, unwavering love, and a legacy rooted in family, hard work, and strength.
Born on January 22, 1946, Billy was a true cowboy at heart. He believed in the value of an honest day's work, the importance of keeping your word, and the strength found in loving your family well. For many years, Billy made his living as a truck driver, spending countless miles on the open road to provide for those he loved. Though he traveled far, his heart was always at home with his family.
On January 9, 1971, Billy married the love of his life, Lucy Ann Tindol Pope. Together they built a marriage founded on love, devotion, and commitment that spanned more than 55 years. Their home was one filled with laughter, resilience, and the joy of raising a large and loving family.
Billy's greatest pride and accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucy Ann Pope, and his six children: Robert Glen Delaney and wife, Christy Delaney; Jerry Glen Delaney and wife, Teri Jane Davis; LeeAnn Pope Rodgers and husband, Harold Rodgers; Billy Glen Pope and wife, Cindy Sightes Pope; Theresa Ann Pope Clark and husband, Kevin Clark; and Tammie Ann Pope Wanjura and husband, Greg Wanjura.
He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply enjoying time together, Billy treasured every moment spent with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew him as a steady presence whose love was constant and whose cowboy spirit never faded.
Billy was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Shelby Nacole Binford; his parents, Melvin and Alice Pope; his grandparents, Andrew and Lee House; and W.A. and Tiny Pope.
Those who knew Billy will remember a man who loved the simple things in life a good day's work, the open road, John Wayne movies, watching rodeos on the TV, and being around the people he loved most. His quiet strength, generous heart, and steadfast devotion to his family will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him.
Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we find comfort knowing that his legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply. His boots may now rest, but the path he walked and the values he instilled will continue to guide generations to come. Billy Ross Pope will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
