Obituary

Burney Edward Krause was born February 25, 1923 in the Prairie Hill Community of Washington County to Henry and Lena (Boortz) Krause. He was baptized on April 1, 1923 and confirmed on May 9, 1937 both in St. John’s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill by Pastor Paul Gogolin.

Mr. Krause attended Brenham public schools.

Mr. Krause was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and was an active member in his daughter and grandchildren’s lives. He was a kind, understanding man who seemed to know everybody. Burney enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and playing cards and dominoes. He was also a great storyteller.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific area as a field artillery crewman during World War II from November 1943 to March 1946.

Mr. Krause had many jobs throughout his lifetime from delivering ice to rural areas, later worked at Carnation Milk Company and last driving a school bus for many years for Brenham Independent School District.

Mr. Krause died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 in Trinity Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, infant brother, sister Gladys Munroe and brother-in-law Weldon Kuehne and brother Milton Krause.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Karen and Alois Gurka; 3 grandchildren Steven and Becky Gurka of Brenham, Lisa and James Lopez of Pflugerville and Curtis and Amanda Gurka of Chappell Hill; 5 great-grandchildren Travis, Kyle, Landon and Kendal Gurka and Zachary Lopez; brother and sisters-in-law Ervin and Ella Krause of Brenham and Nancy Krause of Brenham; sister and brother-in-law Dolores and Clyde Walker of Montana; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, June 16, at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 17 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham with Rev. Lawrence Bade and Rev. Kim Little-Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mark Krause, Gerald Krause, Ron Mertz, Danny Lee Kuehne, Clem Konieczny and George Lorenz.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or charity of choice.
