Carl was born on December 24, 1946 in Brenham to parents Willie Fred and Elizabeth (Sommerfeld) Kolwes. He was baptized in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by Rev. Theo Streng and confirmed in the same church on April 15, 1962 by Pastor Thomas Swygert.
Carl later became a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church of Brenham.

Carl loved people and loved his family; thoroughly enjoyed his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Carl never met a stranger and always had a kind word. His hobbies were working around the farm where he enjoyed riding in the pasture with his nephews looking at the cows. He loved watching TV, loved to eat and was always planning his next meal.
