Obituary

Carrie Elizabeth Mitchamore, a lifelong resident of Brenham, died in Trinity Medical Center on December 27, 2008. In accordance with her request, her funeral service will be at the graveside in Prairie Lea Cemetery Tuesday, December 30, at 10:30 A.M. Visitation with the family will take place at the gravesite.

Carrie was born on February 27,1913. Her husband, E.E. Mitchamore, preceded her in death in 1995. Carrie was the eldest child of Charles Rankin, Sr. and Nettie Wigand Rankin, both whom preceded her in death, as did her only brother and sister-in-law Charlie and Mary Stone Rankin.

As a young girl, Carrie professed a faith in Christ and was received into the First Baptist Church in Brenham. She met her husband in her junior year in Brenham High School and married him a year after her graduation in 1933. Their union was blessed with three children all of which survive. They are Shirley Ann McIntyre who with her husband, Earl, reside in Brenham; Betty Gene Dunlap who with her husband, Robert, reside in Dalhart; E.E. Mitchamore, Jr. who with his wife, Kathy, reside in Leander.

Carrie was a working mother. She served as cashier and bookkeeper at her husband’s Texaco Service Station which stood on the corner of Austin and Commerce Streets in Brenham. In 1976 they sold their business and she retired to give fishing, camping, traveling and her grandchildren full attention. She was a member of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Advisor for the Rainbow Girls in the 1950’s. She was a life time member of the Gun & Rod Club where she learned to swim as a young girl and where she saw all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren learn to swim and fish. Half of her grandchildren knew her as “Grandma”. The other half knew her as “Nomie.” She was an active member of The First Baptist Church of Brenham and founding member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She attended both without fail until her move from her home of 62 years into an independent living apartment at Kruse Village in 1996. Since 2008 she was a resident of Winkleman Health Care Unit at Kruse Village.

Besides, her three children mentioned above, she is survived by ten grandchildren including Bonnie Salinas, Pam Nickell, Linda Spaugh, Michael Earl McIntyre, Paul McIntyre, Leah Walcott, Karen Howell, Christine Faye Mitchamore, E.E. “Toris” Mitchamore, III and Dorothy Elizabeth “Beth” Kragie. Her seventeen great grandchildren include Danna and Justin Salinas, Dave Nickell, Stephen and Cory Spaugh, Allison and Adena Bowen, Megan and Samantha McIntyre. They also include Chantel Hammit, Patricia and Stephen Loftin, Justin and Hillary Werner, as well as Ryan Mathis, Kaylyn and Annabell Kragie and four great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dining mates at Kruse Village, and many community and church friends. She loved them all and was much loved by them.

She will be remembered for her daily devotion to Bible reading, her strong will and her independent spirit. She was a person of great Christian faith who long ago gave her life to the care and will of God. She would recommend we do the same and would invite us to rejoice in her victoriously complete life.

The family would like memorials to be given to the Ministerial Scholarship Fund, c/o The First Baptist Church, 303 N. Market, Brenham,Texas 77833.
