Obituary

Funeral services for Charles Burnett Simank will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, Shreveport, LA. Graveside services will be at 4:00 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2007, at Prairie Lea Cemetery, Brenham, TX.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home. Shreveport, LA.

Charles was born January 19, 1942 in Houston, TX and passed away Sunday, February 25, 2007. He spent his early years in Brenham, TX and graduated from Brenham High School. Charles earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Austin, TX and a Masters Degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. After retiring from Sears Roebuck, he worked for Frees Inc. He was a lifelong Methodist and a current member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church where he served on many committees and was a member of the Cornerstone Sunday School Class. He loved boating and was past Commander of the Shreveport Power Squadron and President of Bird Island Inc. He also enjoyed being a member of the River City Corvette Club. When his daughters were growing up, he helped with the church youth, Girl Scouts and coached soccer. Charles enjoyed playing the organ and traveling to new places.

His parents, Burney and Siss Simank, of Brenham, TX preceded Charles in death. Survivors are his wife of 44 WONDERFUL years, Khaki Simank of Shreveport, LA; daughters, Sharla Sanderson and husband, Stevan of Garland, TX and Kristi Wren and husband, Blake of Shreveport, LA; and grandsons, Preston and Tanner Sanderson of Garland, TX and Landes Charles Wren of Shreveport, LA.

Honoring Charles as pallbearers will be Larry Spradley, Allen Doughty, Ronnie Free, Steve Herbel, Larry Hughes, Jimmy Robinson and Gayle Wren.

Charles was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a wonderful Christian man with a great sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Julie Ann Jones Theological Trust Fund, P.O. Box 382, Brenham, TX 77834, Broadmoor United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
