Obituary
Charles Eugene “Chuck” Covey was born to Carl and Catherine Wilke Covey at Fairchild Air Force Base on November 20, 1954, and was baptized in the Protestant Chapel on the same base.
He attended schools in Sumter, South Carolina, and Brenham, Texas. Immediately upon his graduation from Brenham High School, he entered the United States Marine Corps and gladly served our nation as a dedicated Marine for four years. Following his honorable discharge from military service, Chuck worked in both the electronics and automotive fields. For more than 20 years, he worked for Brenham Tire and Auto, attaining during that time the title of Master Mechanic. At the time of his death on September 6, 2005, he was self-employed.
Chuck also served the Latium Volunteer Fire Department as a volunteer fireman during the organizational years of the department’s existence, spending his vacation weeks attending fire training schools at Texas A & M University.
Survivors who mourn his untimely passing include his parents, Elroy and Catherine Ganske of Latium; his father, Carl Covey of Omaha, Nebraska; brothers and sisters-in-law Curtis and Lana Covey of Dacono, Colorado, Craig and Joan Covey of Avon Lake, Ohio and Clark Covey of Lewisville, Texas; sisters and brother-in-law, Gayle Poehlmann of Temple Texas, and Zena and Doug Hubby of Lewisville, Texas; very special friend Jane McKnight and their son Chris Spires of New Ulm; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, the Reverend Charles and Hazel Covey, and Gottlieb and Esther Wilke.
Like his Grandpa Wilke, whom he admired greatly, Chuck enjoyed outdoor activities, including fishing and gardening. In addition, he enjoyed bowling, turkey shoots, reading and horseback riding. His culinary skill at a barbeque pit was well-known. But he was best loved and respected for his gentleness, his generous spirit and his willingness to help others, and his capacity for hard work.
