Obituary

Charles Joe Germany, 83 of Chappell Hill passed away Friday, July 2, 2004 from pneumonia at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.

He is survived by: his wife, Margie; daughter, Janet Lake of Austin; son, Charles Germany, Jr. and wife of Sugar Land, TX; one sister, Walterine Sanders of Charleston, SC; two granddaughters Janet Germany and Joy Germany; two nieces Mary Bordwine of Harrisonburg, VA, Martha Thompson of Charleston, SC; and several cousins, grand nieces and nephews.

Mr. Germany was born in Dixon, MS on April 17, 1921. He served as a radio technician aboard the USS Mount Olympus in the South Pacific during World War II. His ship participated in the Battles of Leyte Gulf and Lingayen Gulf and was anchored next to the Missouri in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrendered to the United States, ending World War II. After the war, he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Mississippi State University. He was employed by Tennessee Gas Pipeline, part of Tenneco for 37 years, retiring in 1984 as Chief Research Engineer in Houston. He and his wife resided in Chappell Hill, TX since 1986.

He was a member of Chappell Hill First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #67of Chappell Hill and of the American Legion Buddy Wright Post #48 of Brenham. For 50 years, he was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 4, 2004 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 5, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chappell Hill First Baptist Church with Rev. David Beckworth officiating. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery, Chappell Hill.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of the Chappell Hill First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday school class.

Memorials may be made to the Missions Program at Chappell Hill First Baptist Church.
