Obituary

Clarence Herzog passed away Friday, December 27, 2013 at his home in Clay, Texas. Visitation will be Sunday, December 29th from 5-7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Monday, December 30th at 2 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel with Rev Alan Kethan officiating. Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery.

Clarence was born April 30, 1930 to Leo and Ella (Schramme) Herzog in The Prairie Hill Community. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill by Pastor Gogolin. He attended Prairie Hill School. On October 14, 1950, he was married to Elizabeth “Sugar” Brewton by Pastor Gogolin.

For several years, Clarence was employed by Research Exploration. Upon returning to Houston in 1953, he was supervisor for Bell Batton Foundation. Later, he worked for his brother Glenn in Austin at Herzog Foundation. Clarence returned home and worked for his brother-in-law Charles Janner in the oil field. He also was a transfer driver for Appel Ford for 15 years.

He loved to fish, hunt and garden. Clarence raised some of the best tomatoes and always shared them. Most of all he cherished his wife of 63 years, all family members, and his yellow lab Coco. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Somerville for 43 years.

He was preceded in death by parents, brother and sister-in-law Elfred and Vennie Herzog, niece Beverly Tegeler, nephew Larry Herzog, father-in-law and mother-in-law Raymond and Katherine Brewton, sister-in-law Helen Brewton, and nephew Travis Janner.

Survivors include: wife, “Liz” Herzog, brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Britta Herzog of Austin, Harvey and Erin Herzog of Brenham; brother-in-law, Morris Brewton of Brenham, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Kay Janner of Clay, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Donald Bednar, Russell Janner, David Brewton, Terry Herzog, Jerry Herzog and David Herzog. Honorary pallbearers are Gayle Bednar, Brandon Bednar, Eric and Pam Plagens, Ray and Shea Janner, Katy Janner, Jenny and Dean Hrbacek, Byron, Bradley and Amanda Hrbacek, Sarah and Dakota Brewton, James Montgomery, Doyle Gercken, Judy Rudloff, Mound Hill Old Timers Baseball Team, and Appel Ford Family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church of Somerville and Hospice Brazos Valley.
