Obituary

Cora “Coco” Paschetag Lain passed away peacefully on October 31, 2026, at the age of 93 after a lengthy illness. She shared 33 years of marriage with her first husband, Carl deSeay Paschetag, and later 20 years with her second husband, Glenn Lain. Both preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her parents, Bernhard and Emma Richert.

Coco is survived by her younger brother, Bernhard Richert, Jr., of Snohomish, Washington; and her four children: Carl Paschetag, Jr., and his wife, Lynne; John Drake Paschetag; Katryn Lewis and her husband, Lenn; and Laura Brown and her husband, Craig.

She is also survived by her five grandchildren, whom she adored: Emma Huckabe and her husband, Dustin; Gordon Lewis IV; Joan Sides and her husband, Zac; Gordon Brown; and Owen Brown. Her two great-grandchildren, Cora Huckabe and Mary Huckabe, lit up her world.

Coco was born on July 25, 1933, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the older of Bernhard and Emma Richert’s two children. The Richert family moved to Beaumont, Texas, when Coco was young, and she graduated from Beaumont High School. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

In 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, Carl, with whom she had four children. In the early years of their marriage, she worked as a teacher in Austin while Carl attended law school. Alongside raising their four children, she participated in community activities, including the Houston Symphony, the Houston Grand Opera, the Heritage Society, Holly Hall and St. Luke’s United Methodist Women’s group. She was also a docent at Bayou Bend, Miss Ima Hogg’s home, a museum filled with American decorative arts and paintings.

As her children reached adulthood, Coco focused on her real estate interests, first as an agent with John Daugherty, Realtors in Houston, where she worked for fifteen years, and later as a broker and investor in residential real estate. She and her son, John, joined forces to renovate properties in Houston, San Antonio, La Porte and Fayette County.

The funeral will take place at Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer Street, Brenham, Texas, on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.
