Obituary

Cossette “Cozy” Schwettmann Hugo, 89, of Brenham, passed away on August 11, 2020.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm Noon until 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, August 14, 2020, at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Cozy was born on July 7, 1931 to Edward and Antonie “Tonie” (Kolwes) Schwettmann, in Brazoria County, Texas. She was baptized on August 2, 1931 at Salem Lutheran Church by Rev. Wm. Utesch. Cozy was confirmed on October 15, 1944 at Hope Lutheran Church in Beasley Texas by Rev. Hugo Probst. She grew up in the area and attended local schools.

As a young woman, Cozy was employed at a drugstore in Rosenberg. She enjoyed traveling and taking trips abroad with her friends.

Cozy met future husband Burney Hugo through friends. On April 4, 1965, Cozy and Burney were united in marriage at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Rosenberg.

They made their home in the Brenham area. Cozy and Burney enjoyed each other’s company, even if they were just relaxing at home or stopping for a visit with friends at Quick-Mart. The Hugo home was the site of many wonderful BBQ’s and get-togethers. They loved to have company over to talk, laugh, and just enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Cozy and Burney were members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Brenham. Cozy and Burney enjoyed 37 years together prior to Burney’s passing in 2002.

After Burney’s death, Cozy continued to live in Brenham, spending her time with family and friends. Cozy was a thoughtful aunt and great-aunt, often calling and sending cards to family. She always loved to travel, and particularly looked forward to gambling trips with her girlfriends to Las Vegas or to Louisiana. In between trips, she enjoyed the excitement of scratch-offs and lotto games.

Cozy is survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Burney, parents Edward and Tonie Schwettmann, and brother Edwin “Sonny” Schwettmann.
