Obituary

Craig Philip Lesser, 59, of Chappell Hill, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021, in Chappell Hill.

Craig was born December 30, 1961, in Houston, Texas to Phil and Paula Lesser. He grew up working with his father and grandfather at P. Lesser and Son General Store, founded by his great grandfather in 1890. He attended Brenham schools and was a 1980 graduate of Brenham High School. He then went on to Blinn College and graduated from Rice University in 1984 with a B.A. in Legal Studies and Political Science. In 1987 he graduated from South Texas College of Law in Houston. Upon graduation, he became an assistant district attorney in Liberty, Texas for several years, and then returned to Washington County and set up his own law practice. He also served as Washington County Attorney from 1993-1996.

Craig was a member of Country Bible Church in Brenham, serving as deacon and song leader. Over the years he was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and various community organizations. He enjoyed visiting with people, playing 42 with his church family, and travelling with family and friends to various parts of the country.

He was preceded in death by grandparents; father, Phil Lesser; aunts and uncles, Marnie and Vernon Whitmarsh and Mavis and Harry Kay Lesser, Sr.; uncles, Richard Ullrich and Cecil Farrington.

Surviving loving family includes his mother, Paula Lesser; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy and Brady Gregor, Mary Kay and Jim Beard; nieces and nephews, Jenna Gregor, Karra and Lauriano Pineda, Russell Beard, Bill Beard, James Beard; aunts and uncles, Betty Jo Farrington, Connie Ullrich, and Kay and Albert Ullrich and many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 13th from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and funeral services will be Thursday, January 14th at 10 a.m., both in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Pastor Mike Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Kevin Ullrich, Scot Ullrich, Ken Ullrich, Blair Ullrich, Bart Ullrich, Harry Kay Lesser, Jr. and Bruce Dickson.
