Obituary

Cristela Cardenas Franke went home to Jesus on Sunday, August 29th, 2021 at age 45.

Cristela was born to Alfonso and Rosa Cardenas on April 21, 1976 in South Bend, Indiana. As a
child, she loved spending time with her aunts and uncles at her great grandparents home with
whom she also would attend church services. She’s remembered in those years as always
drawing attention to herself, and acting out in a way that would humor herself and others.
Cristela loved to sing, which led her to also explore choir and theater.

Cristela met her husband, James in 2008 at Hohlt Park. They married February 14, 2009.
Cristela was a loving mother to her children Kyerstin Lawhon (husband Benjamin Lawhon),
Ralph Walner, Ramsey Walner, Arik Franke (wife Lauren Franke), Adam Franke, Aron Franke,
and Kingston Franke.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving wife and mother, Cristela also loved spending time with her immediate and extended family, attending Bible studies, volunteering at Bread
Partners and the pregnancy center, and singing with the worship team at Redeemer Church. For
many years she held an unwavering faith in Jesus, which she shared with those who surrounded
her.

Cristela joins Maria Cardenas, Yolanda Gutierrez, Agueda Cardenas, Manuel Cardenas, and
Waldo Franke. She is survived by her husband James Franke; her children Ralph Walner,
Ramsey Walner, Kyerstin Lawhon, Benjamin Lawhon, Kingston Franke, Arik Franke, Lauren
Franke, Adam Franke, and Aron Franke; her grandchildren, Lincoln Walner and Anson Franke;
and her parents and siblings, Alfonso Cardenas, Rosa Cardenas, Alfonso Cardenas Jr. (wife
Andrea Cardenas), Corin Cardenas, Vanessa Cardenas, and Adam Cardenas (wife Dannielle
