Della Joe Cook

Della Joe Bassett Cook, 82, passed away peacefully on October 21st in Brenham, Texas. Visitation with the Cook family will be Tuesday, October 22nd from 5-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at Brenham's First Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 23rd at 2 p.m. with Reverend Troy Sikes officiating. Private burial will follow in Houston National Cemetery.

She was born on February 12, 1931 to Eddie and Leslie Bassett in Thornton, Texas. Her family moved to Houston where she lived most of her life, graduating from Jefferson Davis High School. She was an active and longtime member of Baptist Temple. In recent years, her membership was with Brenham’s First Baptist Church.

Della is predeceased by her parents and a brother, Wayne.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert Louis “Bob” Cook, daughters Catherine Cook of Chappell Hill, Karen Awalt and husband Steve of Sugar Land; grandchildren Laura Baartmans, husband Sjoerd; Kyle Awalt, wife Angela; and Julie Peterson, husband Matthew; great grandchildren Steven Baartmans, Joseph Peterson, and Katelyn Awalt; sister Lenelle West, brothers Glenn and Perry Bassett. Della was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be truly missed.
