Obituary

Doris Mae Addicks Weiss, age 93, left her earthly home and went to be with her heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.

Doris Mae was born October 3, 1924 in the Salem Community of Washington County to John H. and Clara Nordt Addicks. On November 27, 1924 she was baptized and on April 10, 1938 confirmed at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. William Utesch. On August 3, 1947 she was united in marriage to Clemence C. Weiss in the same church by Rev. A.J. Mohr.

Doris Mae was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church all of her life. She was an active member of the Salem Women of the ELCA and in earlier years served as a Sunday School teacher, church organist and as choir accompanist. She also sang in the choir and served on various committees of the church during her lifetime.

She received her education in the rural school of Salem in Washington County, Brenham High School and Blinn College, after which she began her career as a rural school teacher. She taught in the rural schools of Gay Hill, Wesley, and Salem in Washington County where many of her former students remembered her with fondness. Later she began a second career being employed by Seidel, Schroeder & Co.

Doris Mae was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and, more recently, great grandmother. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was loved for generous meals and her cakes, cookies, pies and preserved pickles and jellies. She always encouraged her children and grandchildren to do well scholastically and tried to attend all of their plays, athletic games, dance recitals and band concerts. She was also an avid fan of country music.

She is preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Charles H. and Johanna D. Sprain Weiss, brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Jo Addicks; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ervin and Ruth Stern; brothers-in-law Luther and Louis Walter Weiss, and John Blasienz; sisters-in-law Dorothy Weiss; and nephew James Stern.
