Doris (Streich) Schulte

Doris (Streich) Schulte, age 86 of Brenham, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

She was born February 6, 1934, in the Prairie Hill Community of Washington County to parents Willie Streich and Lydia (Schramme) Streich. On March 11, 1934, she was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill and confirmed March 21, 1948, at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham by the Reverend T. H. Graalmann, where she remained a member for the remainder of her life.

Doris attended Prairie Hill School and Brenham High School. On December 27, 1953, Doris and F. C. “Sonny” Schulte were united in marriage. To this union one son (Darrell) was born July 31, 1955. During the 70’s, she worked at the family’s convenience store, Sonny’s Wag-A-Bag.

Her faith in God and love of family was the core of her existence. Doris was strong, faithful and courageous her entire life. Accepting the challenges of multiple illnesses, she was always thankful to God for the blessings in her life and felt there were others less fortunate. She loved the outdoors; tending to her yard and flowers and feeding the fish and ducks on their small farm. She loved animals of every kind.

As a member of Grace Lutheran Church, she was involved in Grace Lutheran LWML Afternoon Circle.

Survivors include husband F.C. “Sonny” Schulte, son Darrell Schulte and wife Liz, granddaughter Natasha Brzykcy and husband Allen, sister-in-law Dorothy Schulte, along with numerous nephews and nieces.

Preceding her in death were parents Willie and Lydia Streich; sisters Bernadine Meyer and husband Walter, and Delores “Tootsie” Dickschat; father-in-law and mother-in-law Charles and Mary Schulte; brothers-in-law Thomas Schulte and Leonard Dickschat; sister-in-law Mary Helen Cade and husband Wm. “Buddy”.

To protect the health of all during the Covid-19 pandemic, the family has chosen to forego active pallbearers. However, Doris would like to recognize the following as Honorary Pallbearers: Tommy Baker, Mary Barnes, Allen Brzykcy, Betty Dickschat, Dean Dickschat, Brett Fowler, Loretta Gaskamp, Johnie Mae Kolkhorst, Vicky Mathews, Michael Meyer, Gus Mutscher, Dorothy Schulte, Mark Schulte, Michael Schulte, Russell Schulte, Darlene Trant and Debbie Van Eman.

A special thank you to all the wonderful people that cared for Doris through the years. She loved all of you dearly: Brad, Halina, Jackie, Linda, Maureen, Melissa, Natalie, Pat, PJ, Rick, Shirley, Tara and Yolanda.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 28, from 12 noon until 8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral service will be Friday, May 29, at 11 a.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, with pastors Matthew Jacobs and William Holzer officiating. Burial will be private in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
