Obituary

Dorothy (Zwahr) Vogler, 83, of Brenham, passed away on April 11, 2019.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin with Pastor Ken Weiss officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Dorothy was born to parents Walter and Rosie (Muskwinski) Zwahr on May 28, 1935. She was baptized July 21, 1935, and confirmed April 6, 1952, at Salem Lutheran Church of Whitehall, Texas. She grew up as the oldest of seven children. On June 29, 1952, she was united in marriage to Rudolph “Sonny” Vogler, who preceded her in death on April 27, 2011.

Dorothy spent many years working as a waitress at numerous restaurants in the Brenham area. She was also a partner with P & R Catering. She was a dedicated homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and garden, going camping to Lake Somerville and gambling in Louisiana . She always looked forward to the holidays. She would take great care to decorate her home for each one. She especially enjoyed preparing for family gatherings that went along with the holidays - and her family enjoyed her great cooking and always had more than enough food. Everyone in attendance knew Granny would make their favorite dish, just for them. She was especially famous for her canned pickles and tomatoes.

Dorothy is preceded in death by loving husband Rudolph “Sonny” Vogler; her parents, Walter and Rosie Zwahr; four brothers; seven sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and her beloved dog Missy.

Dorothy is survived by: children, Doris Eckert and close friend Donald Knebel, Jimmy Vogler, Sandy Kaminski and husband Paul, Tammy Goldberg and husband Larry; grandchildren, Ryan and Mickelle Eckert, Rachel and Mark Nordt, Chad and Gretchen Vogler, Ashlea and James Mathis, Josh and Brooke Kaminski, Garrett Ginn, Taylor Ginn; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Samantha, Kristin, Addison, Grace, Emma and Zeke Eckert, Noelle Nordt, Cash Vogler, Jada, Jett, and Jerett Mathis, Gracyn and Camdyn Kaminski, Kaydence Ginn; brothers, Wallie Zwahr and Billy Zwahr, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Eckert, Chad Vogler, Josh Kaminski, Garrett Ginn, Taylor Ginn, James Mathis, and Mark Nordt.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Rachel Nordt, Ashlea Mathis, Gretchen Vogler, Brooke Kaminski, Mickelle Eckert.

If desired, a memorial contribution in Dorothy’s memory may be made to Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin or Hospice Brazos Valley.
