Dr. Charles Adolph Heller - Guestbook

I want to extend my sympathies to the family of Dr. Heller. I only found out today he had died. Dr. Heller was an outstanding Chemistry professor, I went to Blinn College Brenham, Tx in 1976-77 and was a student. Not much light on in my brain when it came to Chemistry when I started the class. It was Very difficult for me. But Dr. Heller took the time and really took extra time to try to halp me and achieved some success, I made a C and was never more proud or worked so hard for a C in my life. I will always remember him because he was a story teller, but he used those stories for a purpose and that was to blend his humor with learning. Amazing. Dr. Heller was private and had a tough teaching style, no foolishness' in his class. He did however on a few occasions talk about his bride! We never knew his wife's only he was very happy. I always thought that was kind of cool. And reading the Summary of his life I see he was married at the Church I used to attend. Well I just wanted to make comment that he was a wonderful professor, and I never could have passed chemistry with out his help he got frustrated but looked at me with pity but told me to try harder. Thank you Dr. Heller.

What I am going to miss about Charlie? I am going to miss drinking a Shiner Bock on your back porch on a warm summer night, trying to solve life’s problems. I am going to miss cooking our peppered scrambled eggs at monthly Men’s breakfast. I am going to miss being pulled aside at church to hear one of your jokes. I am going to miss discussing politics and how all the liberals are ruining our country with their loose morals. I am going to miss cutting limbs at the Day School. I am going to miss helping the storm victims in Cuero Texas after the floods. I am going to miss your road kill stew. Damn, I hope you wrote down the formula. I am not going to miss having to pick up dead opossum on the way to church for road kill stew! I am going to miss trying to understand the geometric molecular relationships between elements your models represent. I am going to miss your annual Christmas party get together. I am going to miss talking about our younger days growing up near Victoria, even if we didn’t know each other back then. I am going to miss buying all those Lions club meal tickets. I am going to miss volunteering together at church. I am going to miss learning about trees and lightning rods. I am going to miss giving you a hard time about stuff. I will miss looking up to you, even though I am taller. I am going to miss eating raw okra out of your garden. I am going to miss our discussions about life and why God gives us so many challenges we don’t understand. But most of all I am going to miss you, my friend, a kind, simple, humble man. You will also be missed by many. See you in heaven. Mike

The Heller Family:
Sue and I regret that the situation here would not permit us to come down there.

Charlie was my dearest friend through the years at Blinn College and after my retifement twenty-five years ago. He loved Blinn College, his hundreds of students and many, many friends.

More than that, he loved his family, his church and his constant search for truth in chemical research. Our last conversation indicated that he felt that the theory of crystaline bonding was about finished.

I pray that God will confort you through this trial.

Charles was a loving and caring man all his life. My deepest sympathy goes out to his loved ones. Charles grew up with my wife Joyce. They did communion together and confirmation together. He never forgot her. He called every birthday while she was alive and after she passed. I believe one reason for his calls was to make sure that I didn’t forget her birthday. That’s the kind of man he was. Rest In Peace old friend.

Heller family: Please accept our heartfelt condolences upon the passing of Dr Heller. We enjoyed his stories and quick wit over the years as well benefiting from his vast knowledge regarding trees. I think Charlie cried as hard as we did when we lost one of our special oak trees. He had such a strong connection with nature!
May the angels sing him to heaven as he leaves this earth!

Patricia, Cheryl, Shannon, and the entire Heller family,
I am at a loss for words about Charlie's death. I am in total disbelief and cannot imagine his not being here. Charlie and I came to Blinn in 1972 and we taught in the science division for many years until we both retired. We became very close friends since arriving at Blinn and we have remained close. Charlie was one of the kindest men I have ever known and was always willing and eager to help. He was truly a man of service and God now receives a hard-working angel.
Charlie, I will miss you every day and I love you as a dear, dear friend.

So sorry to hear of Dr. Heller's passing. He was my Chemistry professor at Blinn and I still remember sitting in his classroom to this day. Chemistry was hard but Dr. Heller did the best he could to help us understand and was empathetic to his students. Cherish all your good time spent together and let those memories help comfort you in the days ahead. Thoughts and prayers!

My wife and I want to offer our sincere condolences to Patricia and her daughters as well as to Charlie's other family members. I worked closely with Charlie at Blinn for many years and also in the Lions Club as well. He had a heart for helping students and serving his community like few I have ever known.

We will miss his humor, his intellect and his service very much. His unexpected passing will leave a permanent hole in our hearts and lives. Our empathy goes out to his family and to his friends at this time of loss.

This was definitely a shock to me.

My feelings go out to his family and close friends.
Charlie and I grew up together in Mission Valley, we both graduated from Victoria High School. Charlie continued on to higher education while I enlisted in the United States Air Force for a career of 20-1/2 years, we lost contact with each other for years and I finally talked with him several years ago.

Rest in Peace old friend, you will be missed.

My sincere condolences to the family; I was greatly saddened to hear of the loss of a great teacher and leader. Dr. Heller was my chemistry professor at Blinn(72-74) and one who inspired me to continue in the science field as my life's work. Much of what he taught me was so useful in the work I did in the laboratory. May God's peace and comfort be with the family as you grieve his passing.

I am at a loss for words to convey the shock and loss of our dear friend Charlie. He was truly a man of God and Science. Who but Charlie would drag that huge pot to the church back door and prepare his famous “ Road Kill Stew” for the entire congregation??? We will miss you terribly. Charlie—may you rest in peace and may God say, “ well done my good and faithful servant” Pat you are in our prayers.

Our deepest condolences to Patricia and family. Doc was one of the best and most impressive individuals We have ever met. His love of education and people was awesome. When you met him you were instantly impressed by his down to earth genuine care. Charlie went out of his way to help others. He didn't want praise for the deeds he had done in his life. He told me one time that he just wanted anyone that he had help big or small to pass it own. I believe many a person has been to his back porch. All were welcome to celebrate life with him. I know there are many of us who will miss him dearly. The Lord needed an angel by his side. Rest In Peace dear friend until we meet again.

Patricia & family to you we extend our prayers that God may give you His strength and loving kindness to see you through this sad event. Charlie was truly a great man. I learned to know him through the Brenham Evening Lions Club where he was a true leader and a dedicated Lion. He truly lived our motto of "WE SERVE". To say that he will be missed is an understatement. He knew so many people and did so much for so many. He loved his Lord and his church. I guess that God needed a good Lion too. His family was always his top priority. Charlie rest in peace!
