Dr. W.F. (Boy) Hasskarl, Jr. - Guestbook

I always loved Uncle Boy, and admired him for the husband, Father, grandfather, and Doctor he was. He was a fine man, and an honorable one. Aunt Johnny was one lucky woman! The world is a lesser place with his death.
I will miss him very much.

Dear Family: Please accept our deepest sympathy for the loss of such a fine family man and a community leader. No matter where you saw him or who he was with he never failed to speak and "shoot the breeze" for a few minutes. He and Curtis have really talked over old times on a few occasions. My deepest sympathy to you, the family of Dr. Hasskarl. On a Sunday morning in early February, 1962, I found myself in the ER in Brenham as a result of a serious auto accident. To my good fortune, Dr. Hasskarl was on duty in the ER. He repaired my face and gave me courage to make it through a number of pain filled days. I want you to know how much I appreciate everything he did. Years later, He remembered me and called me by name! I was moved to tears. May God grant you His peace.

Dr. Hasskarl was my personal Dr. all my life and I would like to extend my best wishes to his family for their loss of such a wonderful kind person.

The last time I say him was at the Ford dealership in Brenham and we had the opportunity to have a long visit. I got a "great big" HUG.

He will be missed by many.

To Dr. Boy's dear family,

Doc was one of a kind, and I feel blessed to have gotten to know him some over the past year. He was the subject of my story on Brenham in the 1920s, called Bootleggers, Baseball and Barbecue, which ran in Texas Co-Op Power Magazine last summer. But Doc was more than just a window to the past...he knew Brenham history and her people, was passionate about life and living it to the fullest, and I had a hard time keeping up with him on our jaunts around Brenham and Washington County. We later toured the Wendish museum together and he introduced me to some of Brenham's most colorful and fascinating characters. I will never forget the times I spent in his company. He was one of a kind, a southern gentleman, the likes of which we shall not see again. He had a genuine sense of wonder and curiosity about the world, and wrote with the same humorous and gentle touch that he seemed to offer to all those around him. He will be sorely missed.

With my deepest sympathy and thoughts for your family at this time of great loss.

To the family of Dr. Boy,
On behalf of my family we send our sincere regrets of the recent passing of Dr. Boy. He was always such a joy to talk to...especially about Texas football...since I am now in "The Sooner Nation". His knowledge of his loved Washington County and Brenham are legendary. I had the priviledge of playing golf with Dr. Boy during the festivities of Kacie's wedding...wow...he loved his golf! But, above all, his love for his family should be an example to all of us. We have all been priviledged to have known Dr. Boy...He loved Pat and I am sure they now know the answers to all of the questions we have and don't understand. I can't wait to see them!!!

I am deeply saddened by Dr Boy's death. He was a dear friend as well as one of the first doctors I worked for at the Brenham Clinic. I always felt a special bond with him. I will so miss running into him in the grocery store or visiting with him at our Clinic retiree lunches.
May God comfort you now in your grief and may He give you strength and peace in the days to come.

Dear Joan,Ann,John and Lee,

Your dad was a great man. He exemplified everything that has made our community a great place to live. He volunteered his time to lead Brenham as its mayor in the midst of a busy medical practice. He cared a great deal about the history of this area and took the time to write down his memories and research. He was a fine physician who kept his patients healthy and who cared a great deal about them. His optimism, enthusiasm, and zest for life made him someone that you wanted to be around. May God give you His comfort during this difficult time.
