Obituary
Eddie Dale Vanderworth entered eternal rest at the age of 75 on Sunday, August 24, 2025, surrounded by loving family. He was born to Eugene and Ella Vanderworth in Fort Worth, Texas, but lived in Houston most of his life.
Having earned a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Houston, he worked for various oil and gas firms in his early career. In his “second career,” he worked in software quality assurance/testing for Setpoint, later Aspentech, where he developed some deep and enduring friendships. He also conducted training classes that took him to Australia, China, and the Netherlands. Eddie spent his final seven years living with his wife, Susan, in their country place near New Ulm, Texas, where they enjoyed a peaceful lifestyle.
Eddie was known for his wit. One could be assured that if he was quiet during a conversation or meeting, he was concocting a zinger that would leave the room laughing. He was an original “do it yourself-er” who especially enjoyed construction and woodworking, both of which showcased his talents. An avid camper, Eddie built his own teardrop camper trailer from the ground up. At their new home, he also built his own workshop/man cave.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susan Lenert Vanderworth, their son, Travis Vanderworth of Houston and daughter, Stacy Vanderworth of Austin, his 3 sisters, Lu Hollander of Brenham, Dorothy Mikkelsen of Montgomery, and Mary Whigham (spouse Larry Whigham) of Fort Worth, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is also survived by Lenert family members Charles Lenert (wife Cheryl Lenert) of Hockley, their children and grandchildren, and Eddie’s mother-in-law, Ruby Lewellyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Eugene Vanderworth.
A memorial service will be held in Brenham, Texas on October 3, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel.
He was quietly proud of his service in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War era. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the USO, the Semper Fi Fund, or a charity of your choice.
Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham, Texas 77833. 979.836.3611. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.brenhammemorialchapel.com
