Obituary

Edgar Fricke, Jr. passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the age of 92.

Edgar Fred Paul Fricke, Jr. was born in La Grange, Texas on August 7, 1929 to Edgar and Lydia (Wagner) Fricke. He attended Round Top-Carmine High School, where he was a star of the basketball team. His talent led him to attend Blinn College on a basketball scholarship. After his father’s death, he left Blinn to help support his mother and twin sisters. Edgar briefly worked for the Fayette County Road and Bridge Department, as well as an oil company roughnecker. He then found his life-long career at Humble Oil, and later Exxon, starting as a seismographer or “doodlebugger” as he preferred to call it. He later became a claims agent and from there retired in 1986. Edgar and Esse Lee truly enjoyed their retirement years traveling the U.S. and spending time with family.

On April 3, 1955, Edgar married Esse Lee Weyand in Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Round Top. Edgar was passionate about nature, whether that be speaking about conservation concerns, or diligently caring for his own garden. He was an avid coin collector, enjoyed playing skat and dominoes, and working crossword puzzles. He enjoyed coffee with his friends Mike Budell, the late Earl Bright, Mike Herzog, Wayne Fricke at K&M Grocery.

Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; parents in-law Jesse and Ottilie Weyand; sister Jodie and husband Chuck Reed; brothers-in-law Leroy Fricke and Jack Jatzlau; and niece and nephews Susan Jatzlau, Christopher Menking, and Scott and Clint Reed.

Edgar is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Esse Lee Fricke; children, Trace and Donna Fricke, Matt Fricke, and Jeff and the late Jimmie Lynn Fricke; grandchildren, Lindsey Fricke, Jonathan and Dionne Fricke, Jordan and Jayme Fricke; great-grandchildren, Carlyn Kate, Cade Hunter, Casen Ryan, Essie Leigh, Olivia Heart, Brynleigh and Davis Paul; sister and brother-in-law, Jeep and Ruth Menking; sisters-in-law, Vera Fricke and Vallie Jatzlau; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 26th from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 27th at 10 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top with Pastors John David Nedbalek and Skip Stutts officiating. Burial will be private for family at Florida Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Fricke, Tommy Fricke, Johnny Fricke, Kyle Fricke, Jonathan Fricke, and Jordan Fricke. Honorary pallbearers will be the Round Top Rifle Association, and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Family.

Memorials are requested to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top or Hospice Brazos Valley Brenham or Charity of Choice.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Edgar’s caregiver Tudy Adams.

Edgar was a truly faithful man, a strong man, and a good man. He will be missed.
