Edith (Edie) Odell Korthauer, age 96, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2018, at Brookdale in Kingwood, Texas.
Graveside service will be Friday, June 1st at 2 p.m. in Prairie Lea Cemetery with Pastor Bobbie Maltas officiating.
She was born in Sharp, Texas on April 21, 1922 to Frank and Effie Gamble. She resided in Sharp, Texas and graduated from Sharp High School in 1940.
She married Harry Korthauer in Paris, Texas on March 13, 1943. After Harry returned from serving in WW II, they built their home on Walnut Hill Dr. in Brenham, Texas, where they welcomed their only child, Ken.
In 2010, Edie, now a widow, moved to a retirement home in kingwood to be closer to her son and family.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brenham. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards with friends, and being a full-time mom.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Effie Gamble, husband Harry Korthauer, sister Helen and husband Seigfried Backhaus, brother Glenn Gamble and wife Mildred, and brother-in-law Wilhelm Backhaus.
She will be lovingly missed. Survivors include her sister, Artie Backhaus, 101, of Katy, Texas; son Ken Korthauer and wife Sue of Houston, Texas; grandsons Dane of Houston, Texas, and Collin and wife Whitney of Corvallis, Oregon. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, 408 N. Baylor Street, Brenham, Texas, 77833.
Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham.
