Edmund Duckworth II, loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, died Friday, April 2nd, 2010. He was 83 years old.
Ed was born on February 9, 1927 in St Louis, Missouri to George Edward Duckworth and Doris Beeley Duckworth. His family moved to Houston, Texas, in May 1934, where he attended the Kinkaid School. He graduated high school from New Mexico Military Institute in 1945 and was drafted into the U.S. Army. Ed reached the rank of Corporal and was discharged in 1947. He entered Texas A&M College in September 1947, and graduated with a BS in Agriculture on January 26, 1951. After working in Houston for Texas Pipe Bending Company, a family-owned business, he moved his family to Brenham in 1958 to work for the Cotton Processing Company. In 1968, Ed and his father bought and operated Duckworth’s Tractor Company for twenty-four years. He then became semi-retired, working at LaRoche Chevrolet from 1998 until the present.
Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, Waltraut Goedecke Duckworth, and his four children: Edmund (Ted); Ronald and wife Alison; Heidi and husband Edwin Hard; and Christopher and wife Kim. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: George Brady, Tyler, Clay, Collin, Caroline, David, Zachary and George Mason. Ed is also survived by his sister, Florence Birkby Duckworth Furubotn and husband Eirik Furubotn, several cousins, an aunt, and many nieces and nephews.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Ed was very active in his church and in the community, serving in positions of leadership throughout the years. He loved ranching and horses, golf, and Texas A&M University. He often drove ailing friends to medical appointments and truly enjoyed the deepened friendships that resulted.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 7th at 2 p.m. in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with Rev. David Ottsen officiating.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Brenham, the Brazos Valley Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
