Obituary
Edward Hopmann, 84 of Burton, passed away at his home Saturday, January 11, 2014. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 14th from 6-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 15th at 2 p.m. in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine with Rev. Rich Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Edward James Hopmann, son of Eddie and Selma Rust Hopmann was born November 2, 1929 in the Burton Community. He was baptized January 5, 1930 by Pastor Adolph Walton and confirmed April 2, 1944 both at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Burton. He grew up in the Burton Community and graduated from Burton High School in 1947 and from Blinn College in 1949. He also attended the University of Houston. Edward served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On November 6, 1954 he married Daulene Koerth in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine. They moved to Houston and Edward was employed by Baker Oil Tools for 38 years. In 1992, they returned to the Burton Community. Edward was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine, where he served on church council. He also was an active volunteer and memberships included: Operation Restoration and Cotton Gin Museum, where he served on the Board for many years and was one of the Boll Weevils; American Legion Post 242 Burton: Burton Lion’s Club; and Burton Fire Department.
Edward was devoted to his family and was an avid outdoorsman.
Edward is survived by: wife of 59 years, Daulene Hopmann; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark and Patty Hopmann of Richmond, Don Hopmann of Alvin; grandchildren, Nicholas and Kaitlin Hopmann of Richmond; sister-in-law, Gene Hopmann of Kearns, Texas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Allan and Betty Koerth of Missouri City, Texas, Delton Koerth of Burton, Billy Dean Koerth and special friend Teresa Bilski of Burton; Maurice and Nancy Petersen of Livingston, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, two sisters, two brothers, parents-in-law, and three sisters-in-law.
Pallbearers will be: Randy Hopmann, Bill Hopmann, Troy Hopmann, Gene Guelker, Matt Bathe, Danny Koerth and David Koerth.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Burton Cotton Gin Boll Weevils: Glenn Linke, Roy Dueitt, Bill Young, Ray Felder, Harold Kelm, Dean Edmundsen and Museum staff Linda Russell and Jerry Moore.
Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine, Building Fund or Burton Cotton Gin Museum.
