Obituary
Edward Lorenz, 96, of Brenham, passed away on September 15, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, with Pastor Pat. Dietrich officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery, Brenham.
Edward Lee Lorenz was born on September 9, 1923, to parents Wilhelm “Will” and Lilly (Hollie) Lorenz in Brenham. He grew up and attended school in Brenham. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Edward received training as a welder at Brenham High School, and was proud to put his skills to use during his time in the US Army Air Corps. Edward served 37 months active duty, taking him to Biloxi and Detroit.
Edward received his honorable discharge in December 1944, and then happily returned home to Washington County. Edward quickly rejoined his friends and family, and enjoyed old past times, like attending dances. At a dance at Prairie Hill, Edward would meet his future wife, Mamie Stark, of Bleiblerville. Edward and Mamie were united in marriage on February 15, 1947, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Houston.
Edward and Mamie spent many years living in the Houston area, raising their son Billy. For over 60 years, Edward and Mamie were active members of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Houston.
Although Edward’s work as a carpenter in the fast-growing Houston area kept him busy, he always made time for family. He was very social and enjoyed parties and get-togethers - especially when food was involved.
Edward and Mamie retired in the late 80’s and returned to the Brenham area. For the Lorenz’s, retirement meant they finally had time to travel. From Alaska to the Panama Canal, Edward and Mamie made many fond memories.
While back home in the Brenham area, Edward and Mamie were active in their community. They enjoyed going to dances, the Bluebonnet Opry and Sons of Hermann. Edward was a proud member of Brenham American Legion Post 48. He was especially happy to be home in Brenham to attend “his church” St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Edward was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Edward Lorenz; and sister Verlin Lorenz Parker.
Surviving loving family includes wife of 72 years, Mamie (Stark) Lorenz; son Billy Lee Lorenz and wife Lucy; grandchildren, Rena Lorenz Frank and husband Edward; Corey Lee Lorenz and wife Mary; Bridgette Schulze and husband Kevin; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Frank, Rebecca Lorenz, Hayley LeJunie, Landen Lorenz, Nathaniel Frank, Carley Frank, Darcey Lorenz, Quinn Schulze, Ryder Schulze, Rylie Schulze; god-children Tammy Harmel and Judy Lorenz; and host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
