Obituary

Eleanor Winkelmann Tiemann, age 95 of Brenham, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village.

The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17 at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastors Matthew Jacobs and William Holzer officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Eleanor was born July 22, 1922, in the William Penn community to John and Emma Bohne Winkelmann. She was baptized on September 17, 1922 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in William Penn by Rev. H. F. Hellman and confirmed on April 5, 1936 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill by Rev. P. Gogolin. She received her primary education in the McLennan County schools and the Brenham Public schools. She graduated from Brenham High School in May, 1939.

She was united in marriage to Lonnie Tiemann on November 13, 1941, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sandy Hill by Rev. W. C. Poehlmann, and they were blessed with 70 years of marriage.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing. She was a life time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham and served her Lord as a member of the Afternoon Ladies Circle and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and was active in all of its activities. She enjoyed playing cards and dominoes. She and Lonnie loved dancing and were charter members of the Top Cat Dance Club.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Lonnie Tiemann; her parents, John and Emma Winkelmann; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Barker; brothers and sister and their spouses, Herbert Winkelmann, Ira and Kathryn Winkelmann, Willie and Martha Winkelmann, Gladys and Henry Krause; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fritz and Hilda Langenegger, Martin and Irene Tiemann, Raymond Glenz and John Ludwig.

She is survived by: two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Alvin Ashorn and Beverly and Bill Barker; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Susan Tiemann; seven grandsons and their spouses, Michael and Tammy Ashorn, Steven Ashorn, Jeffrey Ashorn and friend Jennifer Shipley, Kevin and Christine Barker, Philip and Kelly Barker, William Tiemann and friend Tiffany Anderson, and Travis Tiemann; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Alexis Ashorn, Tyler Ashorn, Lindsey Ashorn, Brinkley Barker, Ridge Barker, Gentry Barker and Jack Barker. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Elene Glenz and Evelyn Ludwig and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons. Glenn Wehring, Eleanor’s last surviving cousin, will be honorary pallbearer.

Memorials may be made in her name to Grace Lutheran Church, 1212 W. Jefferson St., Brenham, TX 77833.

Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham.
