Obituary

Ella Mae Quebe left this earth, April 13, 2013 to be with her Lord in her Eternal Home. Ms. Quebe was born February 10, 1920 in the Prairie Hill Community of Washington County to Charlie and Alma Ehlert Quebe. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill.

Ella Mae graduated from Brenham High School, Blinn College and Sam Houston State Teachers College where she obtained her degree in education in 1948. Her teaching career consisted of positions at Cedar Hill School, Rosenberg and Victoria Schools. In 1986 she retired after 45 years of teaching and moved back to Brenham where she continued her love of helping others as a tutor to adults needing to improve their reading skills. Her volunteer work started in Victoria where she donated her time at Memorial Hospital and continued this service work at Trinity Medical Center upon her retirement. Ms. Quebe was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2004 and earned a cumulative 6,000 official hours as a TMC Volunteer by the end of 2005. Ella Mae had also been an active member of the Pilot Club, Fortnightly Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and active in Bible study and the Tuesday morning circle. She also enjoyed playing board games, cards and dominoes as well as reading a good book. Ms. Quebe loved to travel with family and friends and, over the years, was able to spend time in every U.S. state except Oregon. Ella Mae was blessed with good health most of her life and was able to maintain her independence until 2011 when she moved to Argent Court Assisted Living. Her family would like to thank all of the wonderful ladies who helped her during her time there. She treasured all of her time with family and friends and with her cat, Precious, who was her constant companion.

Survivors include brother-in-law, LeRoy Schroeder and nieces and nephews, Janice, Mike and Bailey Grunder, Donald Schroeder and wife Amanda, Russell Schroeder, Brenda Gaskamp and husband Greg, Lillie Mae Klehm Gross, H. C. Becker and wife Marilyn, Warner Neumann, LaNell Arndt and husband Bobby, Helen Schulze and husband Emery. She is also survived by great nieces and nephews, Glen Klehm, Ryan Gaskamp, Allye Schroeder, Avery Schroeder, Bailey Grunder, Jeff Arndt, Tammy Arndt Moulder, Debra Hanath, Becky Schulze, Allen Schulze and Gail Mitschke and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charlie H. Quebe; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Alma and Herbert Pape, Laura Quebe, Ora Nell Quebe, Gladys Schroeder, Erna Quebe, Lillian and Henry Becker and Louise and LeeRoy Neumann.

Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews, H. C. Becker, Warner Neumann, Donald Schroeder, Russell Schroeder, Mike Grunder, Greg Gaskamp, Bobby Arndt and Emery Schulze. Honorary Pallbearers will be her great nephews.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Pastor Phil Fenton officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Donald G. Austin Animal Shelter or the charity of your choice.
