Obituary

Ella Mae Roehling passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center in Brenham.

Ella Mae was born October 19, 1920 in the Sandy Hill Community of Washington County, Texas to Otto and Bertha (Becker) Haarmeyer. She was baptized November 14, 1920 in St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill and confirmed March 24, 1934 in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville. She attended school at Wiedeville was a 1940 graduate of Brenham High School. On December 10, 1953, Ella Mae was united in marriage to Alvin Roehling by Rev. R. J. Weber in Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville. She taught Sunday school and sang in the choir at both Zion Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran for many years. After Mr. Roehling passed away in 1991, Ella Mae continued to live and work on the farm in Zionsville. She moved to Brenham in 1997 where she was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and also a member of the Joy Circle. For 41 years, she was employed at South Market Cleaners. Ella Mae loved her farm animals and pet dogs and enjoyed sewing and baking.

Ella Mae was preceded in death by parents Otto and Betty Haarmeyer, husband Alvin Roehling on January 4, 1991, parents-in-law Henry and Caroline Roehling; sisters and brothers-in-law Adela and Gus Vogler and Mabel and Reinhard Fuelberg; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Helen Mikeska and a great nephew Michael Mikeska.

Her loving family includes niece and great nephew Betty Fuelberg of Austin and Bryce Lane Beckman and his wife Keraudren of Dripping Springs, TX; nephews Delano and Donna Mikeska of Brownwood and Floyd and Patsy Mikeska of Kenney.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2012 in Christ Lutheran Church of Brenham with Interim Pastor Karen Wilhelm officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church or charity of choice.

Pallbearers will be Bryce Beckman, Franklin Haarmeyer, Otis Haarmeyer, Delano Mikeska, Floyd Mikeska, Gene Jones, Billy Howk and Clarence Eben.


Honorary pallbearers will be Webster Hart, Lawrence Greer, Arthur Fuelberg, Dora Steele, Herbert and Marie Blum, Edna Roehling, Darlene Gaskamp, Tommy and Carol Roehling, Leon and Joyce Mantey, Bob Mueller, Byron Benoit, Elene Glenz, Ruth Gurka and Ella M. Rau.
