Obituary

Elsie Vierus, age 91 of Wesley, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018 in Temple, Texas.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 29 in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 30 in Welcome Lutheran Church with Dr. Lisa Burroughs, officiating. Burial will follow in Welcome Lutheran Church cemetery.

Elsie Bender Vierus was born on September 6, 1926 in Wesley, Texas, the daughter of Paul and Ernistine (Brinkmeyer) Bender. She was baptized in Welcome Lutheran Church on February 20, 1927 by Pastor J. Appel. She was confirmed at the same church on March 29, 1942 by Pastor I. M. Mansur.

On July 11, 1948 she was married to Wilbert E. Vierus in Welcome Lutheran Church by Pastor Walter Wolf. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1991.

Elsie attended Wesley Public school. She worked for and retired from Wallace Computer and Brenham Independent School District.

She enjoyed gardening, playing dominos and cards. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandson.

She was a life-long member of Welcome Lutheran Church, Ladies Circle, Altar Guild and served on the Care Committee. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Buddy Wright Post #48 of Brenham, also a member of Wesley-Greenvine-Latium Volunteer Fire Department.

Elsie is kept in loving memory by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Marion Vierus; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Charles Konieczny; four grandchildren, Kristin Vierus and fiancé Adam Haveron, Jonathan Vierus, Chad and Kacey Weiss, Kaci Konieczny and one great-grandson, Cade Weiss; also, sisters-in-law, Judy Bender, Myrtle Cornell and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers and sister-in-law, Herbert “Buck” Bender, Henry and Anita Bender, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernest and Gladys Vierus, Howard Cornell and Henrietta Louise Vierus.

Pallbearers will be Marcus Bender, Brian Bender, James Vierus, Clyde Vierus, Clifford Cornell, Charles Jankowiak, Ryan Bender and Todd Steele.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Welcome Lutheran Church Building Fund.
