Obituary
A man who was the happiest when he helped others succeed died at the age of 84 in Trinity Medical Center. Ervin “Shorty” Krause died on December 12, 2005.
He was born August 13, 1921, to Henry A. and Lena (Boortz) Krause in Washington County. Ervin was baptized and confirmed in the Prairie Hill Lutheran Church. He attended Live Oak School. In 1938 he went to work at the Country Boy Grocery Store until he was inducted into the service in September 1942.
He was a World War II Army Veteran who was stationed in the European theater, which
included England, France, and Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery.
Ervin and Ella Mae Peters were married on August 23, 1942 at Washington-on-the-Brazos. They have two children, Gerald and Tudie.
Shorty was a familiar face to young and old in the community. He owned and operated the Texaco service station on the corner of Commerce and South Market for 32 years. From 1946 to 1978 he worked every day, seven days a week; closing only one day to attend his father’s funeral. It was at this station that he touched the lives of many people. In 1979, he went to work for Brenham ISD in the transportation department. Again he made many friends-fellow workers, bus drivers, and students in the district.
Ervin is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ella Mae; their son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Dolly Krause; their daughter and son-in-law Tudie and Earl Hathaway. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Kyle and Jennie Krause, Kris and Kasey Krause, Koy and Laura Krause, Kate Hathaway, Kari Hathaway; four great-grandchildren: Kaylin, Kullen, Kade, and Kole; a sister Delores Walker and husband Clyde Walker of Billings, Montana; sisters-in-law Lohnie Boyett, Mae Dufilho, Lillie Harrell, Nancy Krause, Selma Naumann and Margaret Peters and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Sons of Hermann Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Milton and Burney Krause, and sister Gladys Kuehne.
