Obituary

Esther (Schulz) Klump, 91 of Brenham, passed away Friday, June 12, 2020.

Esther was born December 25, 1928 in the Wesley community to parents Robert and Bertha (Meyer) Schulz. She attended Wesley School. Esther was baptized and confirmed at Welcome Lutheran Church. On September 12, 1947, she was married to Raymond L. Klump by Reverend W. Wolf at Welcome Lutheran Church. In 2017, before Raymond’s passing, Raymond and Esther celebrated seventy years of marriage. After their family was born, they moved to Salem Lutheran where they were both members until their passing.

Esther grew up on a working farm where the family grew crops and worked cattle. After she married, she worked at Roy Wiese, the Alamo Package Store, and the Corner Drug. She also managed to help her husband raise beef cattle and grow a garden. In her retirement years, she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and her great-grandchildren. When they were born, she quilted blankets for her grandbabies. When she was still in good health, she canned beets, pickles, beans, jelly, pears, and whatever else she could. She especially liked baking cookies, rum cake, and strawberry pies for her family. Esther enjoyed playing bingo and putting puzzles together with her great-granddaughter. While in the nursing home, she loved the visits from all her great-grandchildren who would draw her pictures and give her hugs. She was especially appreciative of her visits from her Salem church folks, her friends, and her family. She treasured the letters, cards, phone calls, flowers, and visits. Esther spent much of her last days working word search puzzles.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; sons, Carl Edward Klump and Jerry Lee Klump; parents, Robert and Bertha Schulz; sister and brother-in-law, Lorene and Theo Hahn; sister-in-law Madeline Klump; and sister, Veda Schulz.
