Evan Bigbee - Guestbook
I find myself thinking of Evan time and again, and today is one of those days. He was one of those light shining in the darkness types of people. He was always positive and fun, and I wish that I could have known him better than I did. It's hard picturing a world that he's not in sometimes because you just always thought he would be around, being Evan. My heart goes out to all his close family and friends, who have to go through losing someone like Evan. Evan you are missed!

Dear BigBee family and Jay,
I am very sorry for your loss. I have thought about Evan the past few years since his passing and was fortunate to recently find his guestbook here. Evan and I were roomates for about 3 years at the University of Houston. He was such a fun and positive person to be around, always frequently coming over to my apartment room with a joke or a prank. Definately a one of a kind person; and he was always willing to give me a helping hand whenever I need it. Although he is not with us now, his great attitude and approached towards life is something that will take with me the rest of my life.
Sincerely,
Long

I miss Evan constantly and consistently.
I recently found a cd Evan made for me a year ago. And, man, it's an amazing mix. Evan would make me mix cds all the time, so it was especially nice to re discover this cd.
I keep having the same re occuring dream about Evan and this whole death-thing was just a complete misunderstanding. I enjoy visiting Evan's mom, Jan , at her home in the country and watching the stars with her and talking about Evan.

Sorry to hear of the untimely death of one so young.
Please find comfort and peace from the promises recorded so that we might have hope in God's Word of truth.
“He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces. And the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for Jehovah himself has spoken [it]. 9 And in that day one will certainly say: “Look! This is our God. We have hoped in him, and he will save us. This is Jehovah. We have hoped in him. Let us be joyful and rejoice in the salvation by him.”” (Isa 25:8-9)

Dear Jan, Randy Jay, Terry and Cheri:
Although I only had the privilege of getting to know Evan over the last couple of years, I got to know him well enough to appreciate what a remarkable person he was. Evan lit up every room he entered with his intelligence, his humor, his genuine caring and his love of life. He continues to serve as a wonderful example of how one should live, so as to derive the most out of every day we have. He will always be loved, remembered and missed.
My heartfelt sympathy to each of you,
Larry Robinson

Dear Jan, Randy, Jay, Terry, and Cheri,
I am filled with emotion as I write this. I know you can’t understand this right now, and there is no way I can imagine the loss of a son who I have raised and loved. I can never fathom the depth of your pain in losing Evan so suddenly, and there is no pain like this. Evan was special. Evan was special in every way imaginable, in all ways that a person can be special and unique. He has been a bright and shining star his whole entire life, and Evan, of all the people I know best on earth, was one of the most peaceful and spiritual people I’ve ever known.
What I can imagine is that God wants Evan close to Him and that Evan will touch many more lives now even than he has in his 28 years. God only takes the best, and Evan truly was the BEST. I can only believe that God needs him close. Evan was universal. He was vast. He was warm, loving and loved by everyone he knew and touched, all who met him, if even briefly. Evan knew the value of everyone, each of us with our flaws, each and every one of us – Evan knew and loved us all unconditionally all the time.
I believe that Evan’s message to us now would be to BE YOURSELF AND VALUE WHO YOU ARE. Evan believed in who he was, he honored his own uniqueness, he celebrated himself and life every single day of his life. He was on a good path, a happy one, and we could’ve never known that God would call him so soon.
We may believe that we should’ve done or said something differently – survivor’s guilt is very difficult. I know this from Johnny’s death. He picked me up Friday in the airplane, he dropped me off safely on Sunday, and the plane crashed on Tuesday and he died. For months I said, “why am I still here and he’s gone?” You may ask yourself this, but we truly don’t know. All we know is that the plan is not ours. This will take time, more for some, less for others, each in their own time. Allow yourselves to feel, and feel it all, and your healing will eventually begin.
In a way, maybe Evan now has the best seat in the house. He’s watching over all of you, and I know that in time, he wants you to celebrate yourselves in your own lives as he always has in his own.
At Hershell’s funeral, the pastor mentioned the Robinson family reunion coming up June 21, and said that where he will be missed by us, he will have his own reunion. Evan will be with him. And Jessie, Papa Pete, Mama Nell, Johnny, Lucy and Joe, and oh my, so many. They will all watch over Evan.
ALWAYS KNOW THIS - Evan loved, looked up to, respected, and adored all of you so dearly, deeply, and completely his whole entire life!
My deepest sympathy and love to all,
Patti
EVAN, I love you!!! I loved watching you grow, and grow up, into the fine young man you had become. I love the fact that you knew, honored, and valued yourself. YOU ARE A STAR.

Sometimes in life you meet people that you know will do great things. Evan was definetly one of those people. I regret to not have known him better since our days in highschool and ofcourse band. To learn that such a person was taken is a tragedy in its own.

Mrs. Bigbee always told us stories about her boys and I was so honoured the handful of times that I actually got to spend time with Evan. I remember him as a judge at our debate/drama tournament at BHS – I remember him just sitting down with us high schoolers and talking to us as though we were equals to him. He discussed philosophy, he drew cartoons, and he did Yoda impressions. Evan left an impression on me that has and will last. He is an example of uniqueness, kindness, and seeing the value in everyone. I have never again met anyone like him. My heart goes out to all of you.

Evan once described himself to me as a visionary philosopher. I agreed with him. He was a true visionary. Evan saw more than most.
I’ve sat here for days trying to think of just the right words or the right word that would do Evan justice and there isn’t one. Evan was beyond any word I could ever come up with.
He seemed to see the “radness” in every person, place and thing that he came in touch with. He wrote an email to me describing Fort Worth and some dining experience that he had and for some reason I have been saving it. I want to share his words with you because they seem to kind of sum up how he saw everything.
“And that kind of stuff is all over the place here!
Like the Lebanese place with the delightfully forward belly dancers and saliva-destroying shawarma!
It's rife with rad, and it's like nobody realizes it!”
Evan was ripe with rad… and everyone realizes it.
I appreciate the moments of knowing this rad man.

There are no amount of comforting words that can penetrate the pain and sorrow that you are experiencing and feeling at this time. Nothing (so I am told) is more painful than losing a child. Mrs. Bigbee and family,
I am praying for ya'll. I remember there being a lot of love in your family. I graduated with and was in Band with Evan. You may not remember me, I didn't keep in contact with Evan as well, and I didn't stay in Brenham after high school, consequently seeing him only a few times after high school. I have three children of my own, now, and it is a difficult subject to fathom, but this life is not the end. He was a special person and your family is truly blessed. Things don't always make sense, but the Lord has a way of seeing us through, better than we could have hoped for. My heart goes out to you.
God Bless You all.

Mrs. Bigbee and Family,
I know you don't know me, but I had the pleasure of knowing your wonderful son for two very short years. I always enjoyed the time we spent together. He was an amazing person and I was at a loss when I heard the tragic news of his death.
My heart goes out to you and your family during these hard times. I haven't been the most devout Christian, but it is times like these that I remember my Christian upbringing and look to the Lord for strength and solace. May God grant you strength during this hard time, and may you know your son remains in the many memories and hearts of all that were graced to be a part of his life.

The joy that Evan brought to everyone he met will live on in the lives of those people. The contributions he made will be a lasting legacy. Keep your eyes on Christ and He will see you through this day by day.

Evan,
A lot of time has passed since I last saw you, and I'm sorry that I can't be there to celebrate your life with everyone. Time tends to spread people apart, and I regret not keeping in better touch with you since high school. I always admired the way that you looked at life, and how you didn't care what other people thought. That is true freedom, and an example for all of us to live by. I'll never, ever see Monty Python or read Douglas Adams without thinking of you.
God willing, I'll see you on the other side, Brother.
To the Bigbee family,
Your son was a great guy and such a good friend to so many people. He always made me laugh, and I never heard him utter a negative word about anyone. I think one of the greatest compliments that someone can receive is that while they may be gone from this Earth, they will never, ever be forgotten. I'll never forget Evan. God bless you all.

Evan you were loved by many and you will be in our memories forever! I enjoyed every moment with you as you made them truly unforgettable. I learned and laughed at most of what you had to say and all of what you did, and found it hard to walk away from an Evan encounter with out a smile as I feel many of us did. I can only imagine whom you could be talking to right now in heaven, and what great things you are continuing to learn, and wonder who you have laughing. If life were a roller coaster, Evan you road in the front row with your hands up the entire time. You are loved and missed dearly.

Every memory I have of Evan is entwined with a smile. I keep picturing him walking down the high school hallway with a jovial look on his face and his arms stretched out wide to wrap me in one his famous hugs. His brilliance and passion for life will always linger with everyone who had the good fortune of encountering him.

Jan...
May you find peace at such a difficult time. As a mother who has lost a child, I understand what you feel and what you are going through and will be going through for a long, long time. Your life is changed forever. The word WHY...no one knows why a mother has to lose a child. We will never know the answers and when we are reunited with them again in heaven, it doesn't even matter.
Please know that I will be praying for you as you have begun your journey down a rough road. If you ever need someone to share memories with, please do not hesitate to call. I do understand. Turn to God for strength to make it through the days ahead, without him...I would not be here. Bless you.

Evan’s loss is undeniably tragic to everyone that knew him. Although it’s been several years since I’ve seen or spoken with him, Evan is not someone easily forgotten; all the messages here can attest to that.
Though the Lord has called him home, he leaves behind everlasting memories. He was someone unafraid to showcase his uniqueness and blaze his own trail. His humor was unlike any others and his zest for life inspired so many people. All of us are better people for having known him.

When Donnie called Saturday evening and gave me the news of Evan, we were all shocked, this is something no parents should ever have to go through. Our hearts went out to all of you, with our prayers.
We talked about the times Evan was over, he was there with about 20 others helping build our cob bench. Then last summer at Sara and Donnie's wedding. Evan, Joe, Matt, Thomas and Lindy going with them on their 's honeymoon to Mexico. Then their's plans for the trip next month back to Mexico for Beth's wedding. They all love being together and enjoyed life to the fullest.
He will be missed by all that knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We know that God is with you all at this time, just lean on him.

My own less bitter, rather more:
Too common! Never morning wore

Dearest Jan,
Tennyson’s lines served him more in the writing than in their long, long summing up. They serve us as a reminder that we must turn one to the other in loss.
Evan I remember well, but never without company—-company drawn together in large part by the breadth of his soul and the depth of his thoughtfulness, by the la joie de vivre that informed his beaming smile and his every gesture.
Thank you for teaching him the importance of sharing the beauty and exhilaration of living. Thank you for sharing him with us.
We share in your sorrow.

"I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an imprint in our memories and in our hearts. We find comfort in knowing our lives have been enriched by having shared their love."
Mrs. Bigbee-Weesner,
I honestly don't know where to start. Back in school you had all the right words for us as we grieved the loss of several of our classmates in a short period. You were there for me, as well as many others, through our grieving process. Now the roles have reversed and you are the one in need of comforting.
Words can't express the pain I am feeling for your family, and as a parent, I can't imagine the loss of a child.
I lost my PawPaw a couple weeks ago and after hearing of Evan's passing, all I can think is that with their personalities combined -- Heaven is going to be a cheerful place to go when our turn comes around. I can't recall EVER seeing Evan without a smile or smirk on his face. Ha!
I know how dear Evan and Jay are...everyday you would share a story about one or both. Such a proud, loving and devoted mom...I've always looked up to you.
Know that you and your family are in my prayers and I think of you often.

What a tragedy that someone who loved life and lived it to the limit should leave us so soon! A bit of light and laughter left the world with Evan’s passing. We believe that God gave us Evan’s life as a gift and, while God did not take Evan from us, He receives Evan as His own. We don’t understand why such a tragedy should happen and all of us who knew Evan, but especially his family and closest friends, deeply grieve this loss.
Evan’s friendship with our son started in Junior High, and we had the pleasure of getting to know Evan. Our son was often at Evan’s and Evan was often at our home. When Evan was young, we heard stories about his pets, and he joined our children in marking his height on the wall showing our children’s growth. As an adult, Evan continued to visit us from time to time. We are filled with sadness that Evan will never come again.
Our hope and prayer for all who knew and loved Evan is that God through time will dull the keen edge of grief that cuts us all, and in our memories of Evan we will recapture the fun, the joy, the love, the laughter that were so much a part of Evan Bigbee.
With our deepest sympathies,
Ken and Linda Newton

To Mrs. Bigbee:
Words escape me when I think of what you must be going through. For someone so wonderful, so special (the both of you), the world feels a great void in the loss of your son. I feel bad though, because for all you've done for me, through schooling and learning to live life, all I can offer you in return are my words of sympathies and condolences. Evan truly was something uncommon and genuine in a world often marred by complacency with the ordinary and the ever-present need to be part of the fold. For every person who met Evan, they could tell this for themselves. He was kind, friendly, outgoing, and had a smile that lit up your classroom whenever he was there. I grieve for your loss, and for the world's loss, but rest easy in the knowledge that tomorrow brings another day, the world will turn, the winds will blow, the sun will rise, and you will persevere. Wake up each morning, and greet the sun. It's Evan's smiling face, and it will be that way until the end of all time. I'm sorry for your loss.

I found out about Evan this morning and am still having a hard time believing it. I don't think there is or ever was a more positive influence on the way I live my life. Evan taught me that no matter how busy, or stressed, or under a deadline you are, there is always time to stop and enjoy the little things that give you the most pleasure in life. As much as he will be missed, I don't think there is a single person who ever met Evan that won't remember how he touched their lives. Evan was a once in a lifetime friend, and he will be missed.

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to leave the world a better place...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
Evan achieved all of these things--and more-- in his short life. My mind is filled with joyful memories of my dear friend, and I know I am not the only one. Evan brought happiness and laughter to the lives of every person he encountered, and I have yet to meet another with such infectious enthusiasm and optimism.
My heart goes out to Evan's family as well as to his many friends. He was ripped from the fabric of our lives in a way that was all too tragic, and our acceptance of that will take time. He will be missed, undoubtedly, but we can honor his memory each time we burst into a smile or erupt into spontaneous laughter. And therefore, we can keep Evan alive in our hearts forever.

Please know that we are all praying for you and yes, we are crying with you, too. Evan was such a part of our lives for so many years, that I find it hard to see Andy without seeing Evan. We pray for you all and ask God's love to surround you because we know where Evan is and Heaven will be a happier place.

My sincerest condolences to Evan's family and all his many friends. He is an extraordinary person full of kindess, love of life, and undoubtedly a terrific sense of humor and wit. He makes everyone smile and laugh and I'm glad he's remembered for that and much more.

Evan was one of the nicest people I've known. I'll always remember seeing him in a store or at UH and having him walk up and give you hug. He was just funny like that. Every time you were around Evan, it was a good time. This is such a horrific loss. My prayers are with the Bigbee family.

I met Evan in January but within this time we were friends he gave me some of the best memories that I will always cherish in my heart. He was fun, silly, intellegent, caring and just one of the all around greatest people I'd met in a really long time. My heart goes out to his family and friends and have been in my constant prayers.

I was fortunate enough to have had Evan in my life for such a short period of time. He was such an amazing person, loving, caring, sweet, fantastic, talented, the greatest person I have known. I am struggling to even complete my thoughts for I just still can't believe any of this is happening. It was just the other day I spoke to him. I am so sorry
