Obituary

Evelyn Doris Studhalter Haack, 96, of Brenham, Texas passed away peacefully on July 30th, 2021.

Evelyn was born on July 27, 1925 in Gay Hill, Texas to Otto and Clara “Konrad” Studhalter. She was baptized at Friedens United Church in Gay Hill, TX on February 14, 1926 by Rev. O.A. Meyer. She was confirmed October 23, 1938 at Friedens United Church by Rev. E. Eiben.

Evelyn was the first daughter born but was preceded 4 years earlier by brother Alvin “Pete” and followed by sister Walline and then twins Edwin “Buck” and Edward “Mouse”. She attended Gay Hill Schools and graduated in the 9th grade.

At the Gay Hill dance hall, she met Milton Haack and their dancing continued for 76 years. They were married May 1, 1944 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Riverside, California by Rev. A.W. Hesse while he was serving in the Army Air Corp. When he was stationed overseas, she returned home to Houston, Texas to work.

When Milton was discharged and returned home, they eventually moved to Texas City, Texas, where he worked for Republican Oil, now Marathon. She attended Beauty College in Houston and eventually opened her own shop for a number of years. They lived there for 34 years. The family were members of the Memorial Lutheran Church and were very active in church activities.

Upon Milton’s retirement, he and Evelyn moved back to Brenham. They joined St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and continued to be active in many church activities. She is now a member of Abiding Word Lutheran Church. Her community involvement was as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. and Sons of Hermann.

Her passion was dancing and raising plants and flowers at her home and at the farm in Gay Hill. Keeping her flower bed beautiful and her homes spotless kept her busy- but never too tired to go dancing. Together they loved dancing, giving dances, going to dances, and just dancing together. Always.
