Obituary

Evelyn Anna Hornak Poremba, age 98, passed to her heavenly home on April 10, 2023 in Brenham, Texas. She was born on April 8, 1925, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Mary and John Hornak. She was baptized and confirmed on April 14, 1925 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manhattan. She grew up in the Bronx, New York and did all of her schooling in New York. Evelyn worked for Postal Telegraph, Western Union, and Uniroyal. She married the love of her life, Joseph (Joe) Poremba on Sept. 16, 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manhattan. They were blessed with 2 children, Richard and Cynthia. Evelyn and Joe moved to Middlebury, Connecticut in 1964 where they made a beautiful life for their family. She was a member of St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury for 55 years. Evelyn loved to cook and have family get together on Sundays. For many years she crocheted afghans, baby outfits, and many more beautiful keepsakes. Also, Evelyn loved to knit, bake, read and one of her favorite things to do was play mahjong.

Her loving husband, Joe passed on December 22, 1985. Now they are together in heaven after being apart for 38 years.

She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Poremba, her niece, Frances Marron, 5 brothers, one sister, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Kelm and husband Ronnie of Brenham, grandson Keith Kelm and wife Kori of Latium, grandson Joseph Poremba and wife Beth of Connecticut, grandson Steven Poremba of Connecticut, great-granddaughters Jordan Kelm and Sienna Kelm of Latium, special niece Dottie Hiep of New York, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 12th from noon until 7 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will Thursday, April 13th at 2 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery of Zionsville.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Keith Kelm, Joseph Poremba, and Steven Poremba.
