Obituary

Florence Witt Borchardt, 87, of Brenham, died Sunday, November 20, 2022, after a brief decline in health. Strong faith and trust in God were her mainstay to the very moment she entered the gates of heaven. Florence was born to Alice (Naumann) and Paul Witt, July 20, 1935, in Washington County. She was baptized September 1, 1935, by Pastor Paul Gogolin at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. On April 2, 1950, Florence was confirmed by Pastor R. J. Weber at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville. On a blustering winter day, December 12, 1954, she was married to Franklin Borchardt at Zion Lutheran Church.

Florence was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxillary. She was a quiet, behind the scenes servant throughout her life. Florence was a wonderful homemaker and seamstress, and while raising her daughters, Florence babysat her God-child’s boys and sewed baby clothes and blankets for a local company. Later, she joined the staff of the Washington County Tax Assessor Collector’s office and helped her husband, Franklin, establish his own business, Frank’s Woodwork and Cabinet Supplies. After retirement, Florence worked part-time at St. Paul’s Christian Day School, preparing snacks and hot lunches for young children.

Florence enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. No matter what she had planned for her day, she would always be immediately available to help with any needs of her daughters and their families. She loved doing yard work and creating cherished memories through holiday gatherings and vacations with friends and family.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Borchardt, who loved his “Flo” with all his heart, on June 18, 1999; her parents, Paul and Alice Naumann Witt; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman and Minnie Reddehase Borchardt, brother-in-law, Herman Borchardt; sister-in-law, Elouise Rodenbeck; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice and Wilbert Eickhoff and Adeline and Alvin “Pete” Studhalter; nephew, Ray Rodenbeck; and niece, Judy Eickhoff Kieke.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in law, Sherrie and Rob Winkelmann and Karen and Billy Holle; grandchildren, Jill and Josh Hyatt, Jodi and Daniel Lyons, Jan and Mark Dollar, Cullen and Danielle Holle, and Will and Lauren Holle; great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Luke Hyatt; Grace, Wyatt, and Annie Lyons; Jed and Jax Dollar; Tate & Eli Holle; brother-in-law, Walter “Butch” Rodenbeck and sister-in-law, Elverna Borchardt; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Pallbearers are Cullen Holle, Will Holle, Josh Hyatt, Daniel Lyons, Mark Dollar, Donnie Studhalter, Jimmy Eickhoff, Craig Borchardt, Ryan Rodenbeck, and Jackson O’Malley.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 22, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, November 23, 2022; at 10:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville with Donna Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

To fulfill Florence’s requests, memorial gifts are designated for Zion Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Christian Day School.

The family sincerely appreciates the loving care provided to Flo by the staff of Accent Home Health Care, Silver Sage Assisted Living Center, and Hospice Brazos Valley.
