Obituary

Frank Gurka age 89 passed away Saturday, January 14 at his Chappell Hill home.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 18th from 4-6PM with a rosary recited at 6PM at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 19th at 10AM at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Father Thaddeus Tabak, SDS as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.

Frank Pete Gurka was born November 18, 1933 in Brenham to Pete Paul and Annie (Pawlowski) Gurka. On September 20, 1959, he married Ruth Ann Haarmeyer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Frank worked for Brenham Independent School District and at Brenham State School. He also served as Washington County Precinct 2 Constable for 18 years. Frank was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and training BlueTick Coon Hounds. Frank will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Pete and Annie Gurka; wife, Ruth Ann Gurka; daughter Cynthia Annie Gurka; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Barbara Gurka; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Leon Faterkowski, Suzie and Johnny Zievert; nephews, Ronnie, Larry and Marion Zievert; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Otto and Lorine Haarmeyer.

Surviving family includes: son, Paul Anthony Gurka of Chappell Hill and daughter Mary Frances Gurka of Brenham.

Pallbearers will be: Raymond Krolczyk, Phillip Derkowski, Joe Gurka, Jacob Gurka, Paul Derkowski, Nathan Gurka, Brian Derkowski, and Rick Krolczyk. Honorary pallbearer will be Alvin Gurka, James Gurka.

Memorial donations are requested to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church mass prayer offering or cemetery fund or American Cancer Society.
