Obituary

Fred B. Kessel, age 84 of Brenham, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021.

Fred B. Kessel was born October 14, 1936 in Brenham to Fred G. and Josephine (Schulz) Kessel. He was educated at Central School, graduated from Brenham High School in 1954 and attended Blinn College. He proudly served in the Navy from 1956- 1962. On April 28, 1962, Fred was married to Louise Kmiec at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He worked as a contract telephone engineer.

Fred was an active member of Cowboy Church of Brenham and Brenham Elks BPOE#979, where he served as Exalted Ruler from 1966-1967.

He was preceded in death by parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law Willie and Stella Kmiec; sisters-in-law Barbara Thane, Sandy Kmiec; brothers-in-law Michael Kmiec, Mark Jacob.

His loving family includes: wife Louise Kessel; daughters and sons-in-law Louella and Kevin Niemeyer, Pamela Kessel Zwahr, Marcella and Michael Kmiec; grandchildren Carlee and Jacob Hooker, Kelli Niemeyer and fiancé Cameron Paxton, Kayla and Skylar Schulz, Curtis and Jessica Zwahr, Gage Kmiec, Jordan and Devin McNeil; great-grandchildren Creed Schulz, Anabelle Zwahr, Major McNeil; siblings and spouses Virginia and A.W. Hodde, Ben and Carolyn Kessel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Walter Thane, Richard Kmiec, Esther and Calvin Landry, Debbie Jacob; special pet Layne.

Visitation will be Monday, January 18 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. The family will be present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Tuesday, January 19, a private family service will be held and burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pastor Marty Mosher will officiate. Family and friends are invited to attend for fellowship and a celebration of Fred’s life to begin Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Cowboy Church of Brenham.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Zwahr, Gage Kmiec, Cameron Paxton, Jacob Hooker, Skylar Schulz and Creed Schulz. Honorary pallbearers will be the Setup Committee of Cowboy Church of Brenham.
