Gary William Roberts - Guestbook

As a fellowe SMU theatre major along with Gary, I was saddened to learn of his loss. He was enthusiastic and charismatic to work with. I'm happy he continued in theatre, and it turned out so well for him.

My condolences go out to his family and many friends. I'm truly sorry.

Donny and Pierre: I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Gary and Sarah, two wonderful people loved by many. They were such an important part of the Memorial High School community many years ago, as was Nancy. I hope you and your Dad are doing as well as possible. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Gary was a remarkably handsome man, but when I first met him, he was a skinny, wide-eyed kid with a grin.

He got started in acting way back in early childhood. As young boys we played almost every day, and part of that play included Gary taking on roles: “Come On, Men!,” he’d yell, leading us into pretend battle. He loved putting on slapstick shows for the neighborhood, too.

How lucky I was to live across the street from the Roberts family. My friendship core also included Gary’s brother Donny and sister Nancy, but Gary was closest to my age. Gary was always sweet, good-natured, funny, playful, imaginative and trustworthy — everything you want in a friend. We remained friends throughout our lives, and he never changed.

I have so many fond memories of Gary and cherish them all.

As my first friend in life, Gary taught me the beauty and value of friendship, and I will always be grateful.

Sending love to his family. I am so sorry for your loss.

Best Brother ever.

Almost exactly fifty years ago we went from three-part harmony to two. I’ll continue with the same songs solo but they won’t be nearly as good.

Love you, Bro. See you later.

The Soares family grieves the loss of their son-in-law, brother-in-law, and uncle. Gary was an important part in our lives—charming, generous, one of our most talented, and definitely the most handsome! Over the years, wereveled over his exquisite portrayals in his performances in Manhattan as well as Brenham. (As artists, themselves,Janet and Arch shared Gary’s love, dedication, and understanding of life in the performing arts). All of us will cherish the memory of a wealth of family gatherings on many occasions—his and Sabrina’s country wedding, the births of their children, summer outings and Christmas holidays, as well as many wonderfully intimate and fun-loving evenings in Brenham, Hastings, Martha’s Vineyard, and Lyme. (How he loved New England seafoods!) How lucky we felt when Sabrina found her love-match (although she probably wouldn’t have dated him at first had she known he was an actor by trade!). But what a wonderful family she joined when she became a Roberts! Here’s to Gary— how we will miss him.
