Obituary
George Allen Edwards Sr., 85, of Brenham, Texas, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2026.
George was born on August 5, 1941, in Danville, Virginia, to Phil W. and Bertha (Waddell) Edwards. He learned the value of hard work at an early age, and it stayed with him throughout his life. On July 25, 1959, he married Frances Loretta Smith, known to all as Loretta, and the two shared 47 beautiful years of marriage.
George’s career took his family to several states before they settled in Brenham in 1979. There he established and managed Cleaners Hanger Company, devoting more than 45 years to the business before his retirement.
George was a devoted family man who loved and cherished those closest to him. He remained deeply dedicated to his beloved wife, Loretta, until her passing in 2007. He also held a special place in his heart for his dog, Candy, a constant source of love and companionship.
George was a kindhearted and dependable man who never hesitated to lend a hand to anyone in need. Whether it was driving a friend to a doctor’s appointment, making a small repair, or simply being there when someone needed him, George could always be counted on. If he didn’t know how to do something, he figured it out and got the job done.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Loretta; his parents; and his sisters, Priscella Jane and Glen Dean.
Left to cherish George’s memory are his daughter, Kimberly Cordova; his son, George Allen Edwards Jr., and wife Staci; his grandchildren, George A. Edwards III and wife Abby Barnwell, Matthew Cordova and wife Lindsay, Holly Cordova and husband Oliver Moran-Pryor, and Christian Edwards; his great-grandchildren, Georgia Ivy Edwards and George Samson Edwards IV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Brenham Church of Christ, 2800 Victory Ln., Brenham, Texas 77833, with Pastor Tim Huffman officiating.
Interment will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brenham Church of Christ or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham, Texas 77833, 979-836-3611. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.brenhammemorialchapel.com.
