Obituary

Gerdine Buerger Blome, 88 of the Sandy Hill Community, died June 10, 2021.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill with Rev. Kris Brower officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be held at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Viewing at Brenham Memorial Chapel will be Friday, June 11 from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Gerdine was born August 25, 1932 in Washington County to Adolf and Ella Berger Buerger. She was baptized on September 18, 1932 by Rev. Geo Czerkus and confirmed on March 30, 1947 by Rev. W.C. Poehlmann both at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

On April 8, 1951, she married Wilfred Blome at St. Matthew Lutheran in Sandy Hill by Rev. A. M. Fiedler. Gerdine was a housewife, but also worked four years at Vernon Ball Greenhouses and then 15 years at Perry Brothers. She was the church organist at Sandy Hill for 40 years and was also a substitute organist at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville. She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran of Sandy Hill.

Gerdine was a gifted seamstress. She sewed blankets as baby and graduation gifts as well as for Lutheran World Relief and local charities. She enjoyed quilting with the Sandy Hill ladies. She also proudly crocheted baby blankets for every niece and nephew and tablecloths for wedding gifts.

She also was an avid gardener and helped Wilfred with their cattle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hortense and George Rhodes, Dorothy Wehmeyer and Fred Louis Heckmann.

Survivors include: husband of 70 years, Wilfred Blome; sister, Majorie Heckmann; brother-in-law Calvin Wehmeyer all of Brenham and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Gerdine was a God Mother to seven children: Glenn Reimer, Kirby Lampe, Debbie Mueller, Tammy Lampe Whidden, Kendall Kramer, Stephanie Ball and Rachel Kramer Phife.

Pallbearers will be Mark Lehmann, Kim Mueller, Glenn Reimer, Daniel Phife, Kendall Kramer and Kirby Lampe.

Memorials are requested to St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill, Hospice Brazos Valley or a charity of choice.
