Gilbert Schroeder

Gilbert O. Schroeder, 85, passed away on May 27, 2021 in College Station, Texas. Gilbert lived in Brenham and was formally from Axtell, Texas.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Brenham Memorial Chapel in Brenham, Texas from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel in Brenham, Texas. Graveside and burial service will be at 3:30 p.m. at Riesel Cemetery, Riesel, Texas.

Gilbert was born in Riesel, Texas. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Riesel, Texas. He was the youngest of 10 children born to Henry W. Schroeder and Lydia Lehrmann Schroeder. Gilbert was married to Evelyn Yvonne Willis of West, Texas on June 14, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Riesel, Texas. To this marriage was born three sons, Calvin, Ronald and Bruce. Evelyn and Gilbert were married for 39 years until her death in October, 1996.

Gilbert was a Senior Service Manager for Lacy Feed Co. and Plantation Foods for 40 years until he retired. To his work family, Gilbert was known as “Aleman”, which means “German” in Spanish. He was a dedicated and loyal employee. After retirement, when he had the opportunity, Gilbert enjoyed visiting with his work friends. He also loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and family, gardening, fishing, hunting and playing 42.

Gilbert married Gertrude Lehrmann on August 17, 2002 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at Gay Hill, Texas. He and Gertrude enjoyed gardening, traveling, visiting with family, friends and playing 42 and cards with friends and at the senior center in Brenham, Texas.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Gertrude. His sons, Calvin and wife, Rose, Ronald, and Bruce, grandchildren Tristan and fiancée, Reagan, Morgann and Caelyn. His step-children, James Lehrmann (Lucretia)and their son, Toren (Stephanie); Patricia Cooke; Carolyn Conklin (Cary) and their son, Carson (Linsay and their children, William, Jackson, and McKenna), and their son, Colby (Brandy and their children Abigail, Sarah Beth and Tucker); Marilyn Snell and her daughter, Melissa Santanta (Scott and their children, James and Sophie) and her daughter, Courtney Tarbox (Jason and their children, Aubrey and Garrett), and Faye Rogers (Doyle,deceased). Special friends Larry and Judy Kieke and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Tristan Schroeder, Roane Lacy, Jr., Ken Perry, Scott Santanta, Lloyd Schwarze, James Lehrmann, Michael Aldridge, and Brian Brewer. Honorary Pallbearers are Epifanio Portillo, Dick Taylor, Pete Palasota, Roger Dale Kocian, Floyd Hueske, EJ Kasper, John Randolph, and Wayne Hurst.

The family wishes to thank the medical staff at Baylor Scott and White in College Station, Texas for the excellent care that Gilbert received.
