Obituary

Glenwood Schwartz, 83 of Burton, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at his home with family by his side.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 10th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 11th at 3:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Greenvine with Deaconess Jennifer Tinker officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Burton.

Glenwood Hugo Schwartz was born November 24, 1931 in Burton, the only child of Hugo Heinrich and Johanna (Bosse) Schwartz. He was baptized December 25, 1931 by Rev. Adolph Walton and confirmed May 25, 1947 by Rev. E.H. Schwengel both in St. John’s Evangelical Church of Burton. He attended Burton schools and was a 1950 graduate of Pasadena High School. On October 5, 1952, he was married to Jeanette Fuchs in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine by Rev. Theo Sager.

He worked at American Gear and Supply in Houston. In May 1951 during the Korean War, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Texas, Tripoli, Libya and Massachusetts. Following active duty in 1955, he worked 31 years in civil service as an aircraft mechanic at Ellington AFB, Houston and Bergstron AFB, Austin. Glenwood also served in the Air Force Reserves 924th Tactical Airlift and Fighter Group from 1958- 1981.

Glenwood retired in 1982 to his “God’s Country”. In Burton, on his parent’s home site, he built a home and quickly became involved in the community. His involvements included memberships of: Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where he served on various committees and as church council president; Burton American Legion Post # 242, where he and others were instrumental in completing the interior of the American Legion Hall, served as caretaker, was commander, along with other duties; Burton Volunteer Fire Department; Burton Sons of Hermann; Oak Hill Cemetery Board; Burton City Council, serving many terms; Washington County Justice of the Peace Precinct 4.

He enjoyed his family, extended family, and friends, his farm, fishing, barbecuing, building swings and Adirondack chairs (many given to fundraising events).

Loving family includes: wife of 62 years, Jeanette Schwartz; son, Dale Schwartz and wife Sue; daughters, Karen Anderson and husband Elton, Jr. “Andy”, Linda Conley and husband Mark; he was "Grandpa" or "Deda" to, Matthew and Jenny Anderson, William and Jennifer Anderson, Brian Anderson and special friend Rachael Stephens, Lance Conley, Brook Conley and Allen Schwartz; Great-Grandpa to, Jay and Gavin Anderson; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Pallbearers will be nephews: E.J. Muehlbrad, Erwin “Buddy” Dallmeyer, Wayne Fuchs, Gerald Fuchs, Ronnie Schulte and Jeff Witte.

Memorials are requested to: Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine, Burton American Legion Post # 242 or Burton Volunteer Fire Department.
