Obituary

Harold F. Bockhorn, age 90 of Brenham, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008 in Trinity Medical Center.

Harold was born March 4, 1918 in the Pleasant Hill Community of Brenham, Washington County, Texas to Walter Franz and Emma Charlotte Koester Bockhorn. He was baptized on May 5, 1918 in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem by Rev. Johannes Mgebroff, and confirmed in the same church on March 20, 1932 by Rev. William Utesch.

He was a 1935 graduate of Brenham High School and received a B.S. in Agricultural Administration from The A&M College of Texas (Texas A&M University) in 1939. On September 5, 1948 he married Frances Marie Torres in Houston, Texas. Harold proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps, where he attained the rank of Major. His entire business career of 43 years was spent with Texaco Incorporated where he attained the position of Deputy Comptroller before retiring in 1979.

His club and organization memberships include Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem where he served on the Trust Fund and Building Fund Committees, lifelong member of Texas A&M Association of Former Students (Century Club Member), 12th Man Foundation, Corps of Cadets Association, Recognized Donor of the Texas A&M Foundation and as Treasurer of Heritage Society of Washington County.

Harold enjoyed genealogy and traveled to Germany to visit and establish family records going back to the 17th Century. He was an avid barbequer, fan of A&M athletics, and enjoyed fishing, golfing and “being in charge.”

His parents, grandson Carl Walter Nelson, and brothers-in-law Arthur Wehman and George Goodson preceded him in death.

Survivors are his loving wife Frances M. Bockhorn of Brenham; son Dr. Bruce Bockhorn and wife Carobeth of Carmine; daughters Joyce Nelson and husband Alfred of College Station and Grace Glenn and husband Michael of Bryan; grandchildren Lee F. Bockhorn (Giulietta), Laura Fiedler (Mark), Catherine Blake (Ryan), Elizabeth Nelson, Jeffrey Glenn and Ross Glenn; great-grandchildren David and Clare Bockhorn, Nick, Chelsea, and Hailey Fiedler; step-grandchildren Lucas Stroech (Chris Ann) and Carolise Stroech; step-great-grandchild Graceyn Stroech; sister Lillie Mae Wehman of Brenham; sister-in-law Peggy Goodson of Spring, Texas; and special niece Scottie (Dan) Davis of Brenham.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2008 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services are at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2008 in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem with Rev. Charles H. Parnell and Rev. Lydia Paterson officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Texas A&M 12th Man Foundation.

Pallbearers are Lee Bockhorn, Dan Davis, Jeffrey Glenn, Michael Glenn, Alfred Nelson and Lucas Stroech. Honorary pallbearers are Catherine Blake, Ryan Blake, Giulietta Bockhorn, Laura Fiedler, Mark Fiedler, Ross Glenn, Elizabeth Nelson, Carolise Stroech and Chris Ann Stroech.
