Obituary

Harold W. Quebe, 91, of Brenham, and widower of Lillian Spinn Quebe, died Wednesday evening, August 3, 2005 in Gazebo Terrace. Funeral services are scheduled for three p.m., on Friday, August 5, 2005, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Kim Little-Brooks and Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Mr. Quebe was born May 17, 1914, on the family farm near the community of Old Washington to Fred and Elsie (Stolz) Quebe. He was baptized in the Christian faith on August 2, 1914. In 1926 he moved with his family to Nueces County, and he was subsequently confirmed on June 10, 1928, by Pastor A. G. Wiederanders at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Robstown. He was educated in the public schools of Washington County and Nueces County.

He served in World War II from 1941 to 1945 as part of the 808th Engineers, who in those years were attached to the Army Air Force, and spent most of his tour of duty in New Guinea, Australia, and the Philippines. When he returned from the war, he became a partner in the dairy and grain farm that his family owned and operated in Nueces County. Working the land was a source of great satisfaction to him throughout his life.

On November 23, 1947, he married Lillian Spinn in St. John’s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. The couple lived near Agua Dulce, Texas, until 1959, when they moved to Somerville and engaged in ranching on land that had belonged to Mr. Quebe’s parents and grandparents. During some of those years, Mr. Quebe also worked at Maddox Furniture Company in Brenham. In 1983 he and his wife moved to Brenham and enjoyed the years of their retirement in this community.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his beloved wife Lillian on January 16, 2002; by his brother Herbert Quebe; and by his sister Rosa Lee Moench.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Quebe of Brenham and her fiancé, Jim Holland, of Dallas; a sister-in-law, Nelda Schlottmann of Brenham; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Scott Rouse, Dale Carnagey, Herbert Bender, Marvin Spreen, Herbert Mantey, and Russell Kohring.

Those who wish to make memorial contributions may donate to the Building Fund of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 305 West Third St., Brenham, Texas 77833, or to their favorite charity.
