Obituary
H.E. Pflughaupt, 54 of Brenham died Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Trinity Medical Center. He was born February 15, 1949 in Brenham. The son of Harold and Barbara Helen Simmons Pflughaupt, he was baptized at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Brenham by Rev. Moylen Byrd. A 1967 graduate of Brenham High School and a 1971 Texas A&M graduate with a degree in Sociology, H.E. began his broadcasting career at the age of 16 at KWHI in Brenham. Later, while a student at Texas A&M, he served as Sports Director of KBTX, Channel 3 in Bryan-College Station. From there, he continued his career at KFDM-TV in Beaumont and served as a reporter and assignments editor. H.E. finished his journalism career as Managing Editor at KWTV, Channel 9 in Oklahoma City. He returned to Brenham in 1979 as President and General Manager of the family business, Pflughaupt Tire Service. Also highlighting his 24 years at the helm of Pflughaupt Tire, H.E. took on a role as a civic leader, serving as Brenham Chamber of Commerce President, President of the Lions Club, and President Emeritus of Maifest, a life member of the Brenham Heritage Society and a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Pflughaupt also led a group of investors who signed radio station KULF on the air in Brenham in the late 1980’s.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 34 years, Marilyn Miller Pflughaupt of Brenham, son Bryce Pflughaupt of Houston, aunt Marguerite Booth of Brenham, cousin Edwin C. Booth and wife Marilyn of Brenham, great nieces Cindy Duty and husband Gene of Sugarland, Tricia Booth of College Station, and close family friend Wilmer Morgan of Bullard, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Barbara Helen Simmons Pflughaupt, and uncle George C. Booth.
The Pflughaupt family will receive visitors Monday, December 1, 2003 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Cecilia Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pallbearers include Jay Jones, Pat Cole, Donnie Sander, Stephen Stuckert, Wilmer Morgan and Mike Capps.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
