Obituary
Helen Kowis Phillips, 72, of Brenham, Texas passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Regional Health Center in Bryan, Texas. She was born to George and Helen Merdian Kowis on March 12, 1931 in Plantersville, Texas and has lived in Brenham since 1968. She was married on April 29, 1950 to William P. Phillips at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson, Texas. Prior to retirement, Helen was a valued associate at Walmart in Brenham for 10 years. Additionally, she worked for Kwik Kopy in Brenham and later in Cypress for 10 years.
Helen was a homemaker, member of American Association of Retired Persons and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham.
Survivors include husband of 53 years William Phillips, son William Phillips, Jr. of Plantersville, sons and daughters-in-law Ronald and Kay Phillips of Brenham, Kenneth and Lete Phillips of Brenham, Alan and Dianne Phillips of College Station, daughters and sons-in-law Janice and Frank Ashley of College Station and Suzanne and Pat McIntyre of Bryan. Helen was also survived by two brothers Conrad Kowis of Tomball, George Kowis of Ohio, two sisters Francis Feazle of Houston and Cecilia Lapaglia of Hurst; 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003 with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 2003 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham with Father David Ivey as Celebrant. Interment and graveside services will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Plantersville on FM 1774. Deacon Pete Sechelski will officiate.
Pallbearers are Christian McIntyre, John McIntyre, Ryan Phillips, Patrick Phillips, Jesse Filgo, Michael Reid, Robert Kowis and Craig Phillips.
The family respectfully requests memorials in lieu of flowers be made to American Cancer Society and Catholic Charities at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham.
