Obituary

Helen Dorothy Wickel, 86 of Brenham passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2004 in Trinity Care Center.

Helen was born May 26, 1917 to Fred and Minnie Wehmeyer Peters in the Greenvine Community. On July 27, 1917 she was baptized in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine by Rev. L. Hoefer and on March 20, 1932 she was confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church by Rev. Wm. Utesch. Helen attended elementary school at Salem. She was married to Ben E. Wickel on December 14, 1940 by Rev. A. J. Mohr in Salem Lutheran Church of Salem, and they had been married 63 years. Helen was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem, where she was a member of the Senior Choir for 47 years and a member of Senior Citizens. For 12 years Helen worked for Southern Drapery, 8 years for Brenham Upholstery & Trim and retired from Sealy Mattress Company.

Helen was preceded in death by both parents Fred and Minnie Peters, father-in-law and mother-in-law Adolph and Louise Wickel, step-mother-in-law Paula Wickel, one niece, 2 nephews, 3 brothers-in-law and 4 sisters-in-law.

Helen is survived by her husband Ben E. Wickel of Brenham; sister Norma Peters Roehe of Santa Fe, Texas; nieces and nephews Marjorie Schroeder, Travis and Shirley Boeker, Verlin Wickel, Thomas Roehe, Jerry Roehe and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation with the Wickel family will be from 5 –7:00 p.m., Friday April 9, 2004 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday April 10, 2004 in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem. Pastor Bill Derrick and Pastor Mike Widner will officiate. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Travis Boeker, Troy Browne, Thomas Roehe, Jerry Sanders, Adolph C. Wehmeyer, Edgar Lentz, Gus Peters and Lonnie Addicks. Honorary pallbearers are Arthur Peters, Edwin Grawunder, Walter Richter, Herbert Schulze, Jr., Freddy Eberhardt, Clifford Brisbin, Dr. Ron Bartay, Lloyd Wubbenhorst.

Memorials may be given to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem.
