Irene (Totsie) Mertz

Irene “Totsie” Mertz, 90, of Brenham passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Bluebonnet Hills Care Center.

Mrs. Mertz was born May 23, 1918 to Rudolph, Sr. and Josephine Grote Vogler in Wesley Community of Washington County, Texas. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On December 10, 1941 she married Lee Richard Mertz in Welcome Lutheran Church by Rev. I. M. Mansur. She was a homemaker and caregiver, enjoyed crocheting and loved being with family.

Her parents, husband Lee R. Mertz, children Eileen Mertz and Lester Mertz, brother and sister-in-law Gus and Adela Vogler and sister Leona Vogler preceded her in death.

Survivors are son and daughter-in-law Larry and Helene Mertz of Houston; daughter and son-in-law Julia and Albert Charles Green of Brenham; grandchildren Clifton Green and wife Marta, Carrie Little of Brenham, Christina Mertz and Jennifer Mertz of Houston; brother and sister-in-law Rudolph, Jr. and Dorothy Vogler of Brenham; great grandchildren Emerald and Autumn Green of Houston; step great grandsons Andrew, David and John Wilhite along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, November 23 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Services are 10 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2008 at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin with Pastor Bill Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Brethren Church Cemetery of Wesley.

Pallbearers are Clifton Green, Daniel Mertz, Jimmy Vogler, Chad Vogler, Ryan Eckert and Emerald Green. Honorary pallbearers are Jennifer and Christina Mertz, Autumn Green, Andrew, David and John Wilhite.

Memorials may be given to Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin.
