Obituary

Irene Winkelmann Lueckemeyer, age 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

Irene was born October 31, 1930 in Brenham to Albert and Katie Kuecker Winkelmann. She was a graduate of Brenham High School and attended Blinn College. On June 10, 1950, she married Fred William Lueckemeyer, Jr. in Brenham. The couple then made their home in Houston. Irene began her career in Houston, working as an administrative assistant at San Jacinto College. She then moved on to the University of Houston, working in the office of the university president. Later in her career, Irene worked at Enron Corporation and at Apache Oil & Gas as an executive assistant.

Irene was a very strong and independent woman. She enjoyed celebrating her birthday with family on Halloween. She was a meticulous gardener, growing beautiful flowering plants in her yard. She also enjoyed family vacations in Estes Park, Colorado where they would hike, fish and ride horseback.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Katie, her husband Fred, her brother-in-law Dennis Sefcik, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley and Bill Spitzer. Surviving family members include daughter and son-in-law Joanne and Joe Windham; sons and daughters-in-law Darrell and Susie Lueckemeyer, Steven and Julie Lueckemeyer, grandchildren Jeanelle Windham, Ross and Meghan Windham, Jared Lueckemeyer, Megan and Patrick Eaves, Rachel and Taylor Cone, Christine Lueckemeyer, great-grandchildren Reid Windham and Wyatt Windham, and sisters Ruth Sefcik and Verlin Wise.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 16 from 10-11 am at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11 am with Pastor Darrin Holub officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jared Lueckemeyer, Ross Windham, Patrick Eaves, Rick Malazzo, Bernard Moseley and Roger Winkelmann.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that a tribute donation be made to the YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park Center, in memory of Irene Lueckemeyer. (www.ymcarockies.org)
